User :   i have been coughing for almost 3 months now. My Dr. said it bronchitis, he tested the speutm and it was negative, he said it was viral. The coughing continues, there are terrible fits of coughing for long periods of time. I am producing small, hard, almost plastic like pieces of mucus, sometimes yellow, sometimes dark brown and specked. I am wondering if this is a fungal infection. Can you help?

User :   all blood tests and chest xray were normal
Doctor :   Because from your symptoms the most probable cause is bronchitis
User :   I am wondering if it might be an allergy.
Doctor :   The inflamtion of bronchiles which is caused by an infection and which is now not prevailing
Doctor :   In case of allergy it will not remain so long
User :   I had surgery in early June, after that I had taken antibiotics for about 7 weeks due to the incision having an infection.
User :   I also have an autoimmune disease, sarcoidosis
Doctor :   And by the history suggested should have very frequent episodes os respiratory distress

User :   never had respiratory distress. neurosarcoid is what I have

User :   not in the past 5 years.
User :   I live in a very old house, am wondering if I am allergic to it. am I overreacting?

User :   saw an infectiou disease doctor, she suggested seeing a pulmonary dr. Am going to try to schedule tomorrow.
User :   Yes I have breathlessness, whenver I have the coughing fits. It's terrible.
Doctor :   Because hyperesponsiveness will lead to sudden constriction of bronchioles
Doctor :   That will be an better option
User :   i have an inhaler that is no longer doing it's job. The Dr. gave me Tessler Pearls for sleeping and they don't work.
Doctor :   Such long duration suggests of some infection which is prone to be chronic than allergy

User :   I have a prescription for cheratussin, to take every 4 - 6 hours, it wears off after 3

User :   is a lung dr the person to see for TB test?
User :   yes it is a syrup

User :   well, when I first started taking it on Thursday, it worked. Not so much now.

User :   will schedule an appointment for tomorrow. The coughing gets worse, of course, when I lay down
User :   so I'm exhausted and in pain from coughing, my ribs, back and neck.

User :   taking tylenol

Doctor :   And also consume only hot foods
User :   ok, the shower helps.
User :   xray wsas taken, negative, clear. I DO NOT SMOKE.

User :   nor am I around smokes.
User :   the painkiller is for the pain I just described, from all the coughing.

User :   well I guess I will see a dr. tomorrow and try to get the TB test done.
User :   how difficult is that to cure?
Doctor :   Get an Xray doen and reported too. along with sputum test ( repeat)
Doctor :   Its not difficult all nedded is a courese of meds for 6 months to 1 year depending on sverity of infection
User :   ok I've had 3 xrays over the past 2 months. not sure if the doctor will order another.
Doctor :   Was the xrays reported by radiologist?
User :   oh, am also on a zpack, just in case there is something there. Tomorrow is day five.
User :   yesit was reported. The radiologist claims that all is clear and normal
Doctor :   The will require no xray
Doctor :   Zpax is an azithromycin

Doctor :   Will help control infection
Doctor :   But get examined by an pulmonologist will sure help
Doctor :   Will some times even require more invausve investigations
User :   it was a last ditch effort since I wasn't getting better. The ID dr. thought it would not hurt.
