my son woke up ill early in the morning. He vomited at 5:30 am, 8:30 am and again at 11:00am.
He also feels like his back shoulder hurts and he has a red streaky rash there. He has a low grade fever of 99.7.
We have gone over what he ate; however, everyone ate the same items and no one else is sick - so food poisoning has pretty much been ruled out.
Any ideas or thoughts on this?
Doctor :   hello
User :   hi
Doctor :   let me read your query. give me a min please
User :   ok - thanks for your help
Doctor :   can you tell me the age of your son ?
User :   other items I might mention: he is 14, VERY healthy (competitive swimmer), he is allergic to nuts. I check items he eats meticulously
Doctor :   can you tell me more about the rash ?
User :   it is on the back part of the shoulder that he complained of hurting - not bumpy - red
Doctor :   when did you first noticed it ?
User :   looks streaky almost - over a large area - size of a throw pillow - on his back covers top right corner ... noticed it 15 min. ago
User :   trying to make a decision on urgent care ;)
Doctor :   does he have sore throat?
User :   no
User :   that was my question (menigitis sp? concern)
User :   my husband is a surgical nurse
Doctor :   there are few conditions that can present as fever rash and vomiting in children and most common can be scarlet fever
Doctor :   which is a bacterial infection
User :   hmmm - I hadn't thought of that - would the rash be localized?
User :   and the fever so low
Doctor :   t's always safest to keep that child's drinking glasses and eating utensils separate from those of other family members, and to wash these items thoroughly in hot soapy water. Wash your own hands frequently
User :   certainly
User :   my husband is a little bit of a nut about such things ;)
Doctor :   the best option i will however suggest you to get a physical examination done and a laboratory test to confirm
User :   ok - thanks for your advice ....
Doctor :   can be done by taking a swab from throat
User :   in regards to my question about the localization of the rash - would scarlet fever traditionally have such a rash that is so localized?
Doctor :   we would like to first confirm the diagnosis and then it can be treated accordingly
Doctor :   yes it is
User :   ok, thx much - have a good day - we'll be off to urgent care then
Doctor :   yes
User :   bye
Doctor :   please do
Doctor :   take care
Doctor :   bye bye
User :   you too
