User :   one week ago, i was at work and cut my thumb... i didnt think it was deep enough to get stiches so i went home and applied salt water and neosporin. it has been getting better but
User :   today i have swelling and tingling on my whole thumb

User :   no there is no discharge leaking or anything from the wound, it is actually closing very well

User :   no there is not

User :   what is scary is the swelling and tingling

this you noticed from how many hours before?
User :   i have felt this for about 3 hrs and the cut occured a week ago

than you need not be scared

you can apply ice compression to the swelling for 5 minutes 4 to 5 times a day

and keep the hand elevated
User :   ok what do you think the tingling is?

it is swelling of the tissue causing the tingling sensation

the swelling is because of the leak in the fluid in the tissues in the process of wound healing
User :   ok, so just keep soaking in salt water. applying neosporin and put ice on for 5 min 4 times a day

User :   ok, i know this is a crazy question but why do you think this is happening a week later?
Doctor :   the wound takes its own time to heal

and it is usually more than a week

User :   how long do you think it will take the swelling to go down or is it just a think that everybody is diff with?
Doctor :   it varies but it will usually take 3 to 4 days
Doctor :   during this time it is more prone for infection
Doctor :  
so you need to keep the wound and surrounding area clean and free from dust
User :   ok thank you very much. i havent had a tetnus shot in 7 yrs do you think im ok

User :   yes
