Doctor :   hi
Doctor :
how can i help u?
User :   how can I tell if the swelling around my stitches is normal?
Doctor :
ok
User :   it doesnt seem to be healing
Doctor :
welcome back
User :   thanks
Doctor :
actually the healed wound will have clean edges
Doctor :
and it will not be filled with pus
User :   theres no pus
User :   it just seems to be swelling too much
User :   the flap that got cut off is constantly purplish and swollen
Doctor :
ok
User :   and uncomforably "hard" feeling
Doctor :
then the stitches they have out is very tight
Doctor :
so its better u get the stiches removed
Doctor :   how mmany days u have got stitches?
User :   is this typical for stitches in the hand? i know the ER doctor mentioned that its possible that theyll be too tight to heal
User :   7 days
User :   supposed to be 10-12
Doctor :
ok
Doctor :   if it is swelling then its better u remove the stitches
User :   do you think the hardness is just from the swelling?
Doctor :
is there any discharge?
User :   no
Doctor :
ok
User :   just feels like edema
User :   if i push on it
Doctor :
ok
User :   so you think it sounds like they need to be removed? is there anything I could try to get the swelling down?
Doctor :   yes, it would be better if they are re-examined, and if found necessary, to be removed
Doctor :   if the swelling is due to edema. it should come down
Doctor :
but if not then it will hamper the healing process
User :   thats exactly what i feel it is doing
User :   it looks like the skin is not coming together because its too swollen
Doctor :
and only on examining it, the cause for it can be made out, and treated.
User :   right that makes sense...but it definitely seems like it would be worth it to make the appointment
Doctor :
yes, surely
Doctor :
as that will help to come to a conclusion as to what would be the best to do for it
Doctor :
whether to remove stitches, try some drugs to reduce the swelling, or both.
User :   thank you--just needed confirmation on that thought
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :
Is there any thing else I can help you with?
