User :   I am a 51 y/o fe that had my gallbladder taken out in 1977 due to 8 large gallstones. Over the past 3 weeks my gallbaldder incision is extremely swollen, painful and the pain radiates to the end of the sternum. I have pain attacks that last 45 min to an hour and usually are at night. I can't eat except broth, baked potatoes, jello and drink milk. The pain is so intense that I have to curl up in the fetal position on the couch and roll back and forth till the pain goes away. I am concerned. The pain feels like what it did before I had my gallbladder out.
Doctor :   Hi,
Doctor :   Dr XXX here
User :   Hello
Doctor :   please give a minute to read your post
User :   Yes
Doctor :   ok, did you run raised temperature these days ?
User :   no
Doctor :   Do you notice any yellowish discoloration in the eyes ( sclera) jaundice ?
User :   honestly I have not looked
User :   no vomiting, loose stools, coughing, runny nose
Doctor :   ok, here i suggest you to rule out jaundice in you by getting an liver function test
User :   have had a change in the color in my urine
Doctor :   and also to see whether its a n abscess or a growth causing the pain get an Ultrasound Scan of the abdomen
Doctor :   what color is the urine ?
User :   darkish yellow
User :   and I dont go as often as I used too
Doctor :   yes, that could be due to the same , jaundice
Doctor :   thast ok, get an LFT done it will give you results even if it is in its early stages
User :   how does the liver have anything to do with the massive swelling over the incision site?
Doctor :   liver function test not only tells about it also indicates about the structures around the liver
User :   not too sound dumb however is the liver located near where my gallbladder was?
Doctor :   i doubt the swelling is at the previous surgery site , either an abscess or a growth
Doctor :   yes, the secretions of the liver are concentrated in gall bladder which resides just under surface of the liver
User :   the swelling IS EXACTLY over the surgery site
User :   why do you DOUBT that
User :   actually the swelling is UNDER THE SURGERY SITE
Doctor :   i doubt because the symptoms you mentioned are in congruence with the complications i mentioned which are commonly encountered with ppl, removed of gall bladder
User :   and congruence means?
Doctor :   the exact location of the problem would be in the hepatic duct or the bile duct
User :   i understand that
User :   so you think it may be related more to my liver
Doctor :   in favour of
Doctor :   not exactly the liver but the ducts conneting it to the intestines
User :   however, the swelling I am having could be also related to the bile ducts as well?
Doctor :   yes,
User :   is this dangerous
Doctor :   well , it depends on the severity of the problem
Doctor :   which could be determined by an LFT and a ultrasound scan of the Abdomen
User :   you mean if any of the duts might be closed off or how much the liver is effected?
Doctor :   I do not doubt the problem would be in the liver,
Doctor :   ducts are the one at stake
Doctor :   depending on your history
User :   okay, I have also had a complete hysterectomy...would that effect anything
Doctor :   yes, there may be block , infection or even a growth in or near the ducts which is causing the present problems
Doctor :   no , i do not relate the hysterectomy to the present problem
User :   oh my goodness...they wouldnt have to do that procedure that they put the tube down your throat would they
Doctor :   what procedure ?
User :   I think it is called an endoscopy????
Doctor :   yes, i do not see any need for it now
User :   i have been through alot with doctors and i am very very scared of them now
Doctor :   get the tests i mentioned , they will give you a clear picture
User :   thank you very much for your help...the time is running out..i will do as you suggest
Doctor :   ok
