User :   I am worried about hiv. I had sex with prostitute and used condom entire time oral and vaginal for only a few minutes with no breaks that i could see around 12/16/10 a day or so later i felt tingling and got a rash on my penis. i feared herpes but after doctor visit he assured me it was dermatitus and it did clear up. Also he thought if it was herpes it would be at the base of the penis and not on the shaft because it was covered. he thought maybe i had an allergic reaction to lube or the condom. because i felt so guilty i broke down and told my wife. We are working it out but i have been sleep deprived and under great stress and i came down with a cough with brown and yellow phlim it lasted several days and i took two days worth of amoxicilin we had at the house. my cough is for the most part gone and only white phlim if i do occasionally cough. About the same time i had a rash develop between one of my thighs and my genitals which seems a lot like a heat rash i have had before and has begun to clear up. However i developed diarea since yesterday. I had eaten some yogurt which hasnt expried but is set to expire in a few days and after that i just felt nauseated and have had diarea since I hope it is just from that. I am scared of hiv. I havent had a fever as far as i can tell . I did have swollen lymph nodes a bit with my cough but that has cleared up too. I am just obsessed with the idea of having something i am scared. I know some of these symptoms are consistent with acute hiv. I have also had a lot of burning or cool sensations and tingling all over and my skin my hands dried out and cracked on the nuckles. I have read that this could be associated with stress and anxiety. I want to know does initial hiv infection behave this way? because it seems like i would have all the symptoms at the same time like flu. I am just scared. I want to get tested but i
User :   have read that the 21 day pcr test has a chance of false positives and that scares me too. Should i get this test? or wait for the later antibody test that is more accurate? thank you
Doctor :   Hi,
Doctor :
Doctor :   Let me read your query for few minutes to be able to have a good discussion here.
Doctor :   ok,
Doctor :   I do not think the illness you had is a seroconcversion illness of HIV and for the record it do not occur so early , it takes minimum of 3 months , and still late in a healthy individual
Doctor :   Its just a group of illness came one after the other , none have a connection or give an idea of seroconversion
User :   thank you for this
User :   should i still get tested?
Doctor :   If yopu really want the test done , then you can go for either PCR or P24 antigen assay after a week from now ,as they are sensitive and the false results are very minimal after a month of infection
Doctor :   you*
Doctor :   But i according to me , the test is not needed
Doctor :   as i do not suspect any infection from this episode of sexual act
User :   that is a relief i am also very guilty because i did this and this is really effecting sleep and eating habits and i am just getting run down from it
Doctor :   all the illnesses you mentioned with the diagnosis are right respectively
Doctor :   just affirm youself that you do not have infection
Doctor :   and you have my word
User :   so the first symptoms of hiv do not occur for 3 months after contact
Doctor :   but still if you need the tests can calm your mind then go for either of i told after a week from now , false results are very minimal as i said
User :   ok thank you good bye
Doctor :   yes, commonly6 do not occur within 3 months, bacause for the seroconversion to occur the viral load has to reach a optimum level and that takes not less than 3 months
Doctor :   It seems you have moved out of the chat window. Please log in back if you have medical queries
