okay....I am XXXX wife...I have a one year old daughter and I breastfeed her since birth...
but from past one week....my breasts are bleeding and I am unable to feed her. Since she is not used to with bottles and all...my baby is not able sleep properly at night
I am applying coconut oil and some baby lotion to it...but it is not helping
Do you mean it's bleeding from trauma or there is blood discharge from the nipple?
can i apply something else which can treat it as soon as possible
its bleeding from trauma i guess...cracks around the nipples
Do you notice any other skin changes such as redness, swelling from where it is bleeding besides the crack?
there is skin peeling and cracks that bleed
Is it on both sides or only one side?
it started with one side but now its on both sides
Ok; Let me brief you.
okay please continue
What you describe is a common complaint in breast fed mother especially when the baby starts dentition.
Unfortunately these cracks need time and rest to heal. No miracle pills to heal it.
Oiling and moisturizing it with vitamin supplements will aid in the recovery; but that takes time.
If your daughter is not used to other feed, I would suggest you to try expressing milk and feeding
until it heals.
Alternatively you can try feeding her from only the less painful area; and once the other area heals
you may switch off sides.
I tried doing but she doesnt take in bottle or glass.... since she is on solids and give her something or the other during the day....but nights she cries a lot
both sides it has got severe now.... cant a apply something else
As I suggested earlier sore nipples will need some time to recover. But you can try couple of things more.
1. Soak the nipples in a warm saline water solution.
It helps in reducing the oedema/pain as well as hydrates the nipple.
you can try it before feeding and after feeding the baby.
2. Apply an antibiotic to make sure it doesn't get infected.
Make sure you wipe it clean before feeding.
What I suggested are temporary fix.
avoid wearing thigh undergarments.
If it pains continuously, you can take oral pain killers too.
I wouldn't use oral tablets if you are not in pain when not feeding.
It doesn't get into the feed significantly and even if it does, it has no serious implications on the baby.
ok since i dont feed during day...I wont
At this instance, I would like you to make your daughter wean away from breast feeds completely.
Try increasing her dinner meals so that she doesn't become hungry.
Or you may want to add some small snacks before her sleep to keep her free from hunger.
I wanted to feed her till she gets two...is it ok if her wean her now
The more you keep feeding her, the more are you risking yourself to trauma.
There are benefits of feeding her; but there are cons too.
You will be risking yourself to injuries
therefore I always suggest my parents to wean off breast feeds as the child grows and starts developing more teeth.
Hope you understand what I suggested.
Do you have any more questions?
she only feeds to get back to her sleep
No nothing as such.....
Thanks for your suggestions and valuable time
Thanks for consulting me.
Bye for ow.
You can back on chat.
is there anything else?
no i was just checking the medications you gave
It's bactroban ointment.
Thin application twice or thrice a day. Make sure you wipe it clean while feeding.
Is it thigh undergarments or thin that has to be avoided
And insert/soak into a bowel of warm salt water.
Avoid tight garment. Pressure will delay the healing. Some gnecologist advice to keep it open to air.
I give that choice to you.
Is there any thing else?
Thanks for consulting me.
Bye for now.'
