Suggest the medicine for a child having constipation problem - Online Doctor Chats
Hello Doctor, Good Evening
How can I help you today?
I have a kid who is 2 year old (male)
can you please recommend some medicine?
How bad is the constipation?
After hopw many does he get his stools
once in 2 days that too after doing some home remedies
Is he taking enough fluids and food?
fluids, drinks water (not sure how many glasses), but food is ok, takes around 3-4 meals a day
sometimes for 3-4 days he doesn't go (stool)
and when he goes he normally has to try very hard
this problem is there for nearly 2 months
Do you recommend some medicine or should I consult Paedtrician?
Firstly we need to avoid damage to the local area by applying some lidocaine gel when he has to go after a prolonged constipation
If you feel that the area is bruised, then apply neosporin
For mild constipation, try giving him prunes 2 - 3 in a day
Prunes you can find at any grocery store in the dry fruit aisle
any oral medicine, syrup?
1 tsp once or twice a day
can also be given
Also give him more of fatty food
lactulose, any brand?
like butter, ghee etc
But different pharmacies carry different brands
Give oral medicines only if prunes didnot work
Avoid giving him continuously every day
avoid, Prunes or Oral medicine?
oral medicines for constipation
He should revert to his normal routine
These medicines are to help during bad times
sorry, but what are prunes called in Hindi?
They are dried forms of alu bukhara
These are tasty and kids love it
if in case my kid doesn't takes it? any other alternative home made remedy?
fatty food and XXXXXXX juice may help
Applying vaseline or lidocauine gel on the area should also help
ok, should we apply before or after passing stool?
these should be applied before passing stools
Do you have any question here?
I have one more kid who is older: 3.5 years (female)
There are no medicines available that will help in gain weight
Though I can tell you some other recommendations that will help
sure, that would great help. we are very concerned about her weight
These involve some simple blood tests
High calorie foods are required in be included in her diet
Mostly milk products like cheese, butter, ghee, ice creams, other cream containing foods, etc
She will need regular meals
Missing meals is the biggest factor for low weight
ok, can you please let me know the tests too which needs to be done for her?
Milk should be atleast 3 glasses in a day
is also needed
Do you have any question?
that's it for now, I'll get back to you after the tests are done. Thank you so much for answering all my concerns and for your patience
