What is the best prescription, non-narcotic, pain medicine for knee and ankle joint relief. I spend a lot of time on my feet and after 4 to 5 hours i have somewhat severe pain in these areas. I have tried Percocet and 10mg Oxycodone which really helps but not sure if that is the right way to go about treating my chronic pain. Could use some advice.
Thank you for helping me with this issue.
Doctor:Oxycodone would be preferred for long term pain relief
Doctor:The other available medicines are called non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs
Doctor:but they have their own issues on long term use
Doctor:If you don't need to take the pain medication on a daily basis then they would do the job equally well
User:Do you think my Dr. would be willing to prescribe that with all the controversy surrounding Oxycodone
Doctor:I can not be certain about what your doctor may or may not do
Doctor:but as a general principle, the choice of medication depends on the needs on the patient
Doctor:not the doctor's preference
User:I would definitely need to take something on a daily basis. I can be on my feet for up to 10 to 12 hrs a day and to start walking and running again.
Doctor:I see that you have mentioned that you take about 12 to 18 Motrin 200 a day
Doctor:Motrin is a NSAID (Nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug)
Doctor:If you don't have adequate pain relief from that, then your only option would be to continue with Oxycodone
User:Can I as the patient request a Prescription for 10mg of Ocycodone from my Dr. based on the symptoms and situations I described to you. I s that a reasonable request
Doctor:Yes, it is a reasonable request
Doctor:You don't have to endure pain when a remedy is available
Doctor:I am positive that your doctor will understand your problem
User:Well I will check with my Doctor next week. Dr XXXXXXX thank you so much for your assistance with this matter. Have a great week.
Doctor:You too sir
Doctor:have a great week
Doctor:take care
