User :   hi Im 29 and have been having this sore throat and itchy ear only on the left side for over 1.5 months now, It started with a bad cold, but the cold has subsided with the antibiotics, but the throat and ear keeps itchig on and off. Also I noticed that whenever I sleep and wake up and swallow while lying down I hear this clicking noise in my throat. The ent I went checked my nose and throt and said that it is a infection, and nothing sinister, but gave me azithromicine, cetrizine, and a syrup to bring out the flem. Please let me know if it can be anything serious... plus there is a terrible upper respitory infection going around here, cause everyones been hvnga cough and cold for over a month now. thankyou.
Doctor :   Hi
User :   hello
Doctor :   Let me read the query.
User :   k
Doctor :   Give me a minute
User :   will do
Doctor :   I have few questions for you now
User :   k
Doctor :   What is your age, gender and location
User :   srilankan,, 29, female
Doctor :   Ok, you are in the climate where there is a possibility of seasonal flu
Doctor :   So frequent infections (viral ) are common
User :   yes, cause everyones coughing, and having a cold
Doctor :   Did you have fever to start with?
Doctor :   or just sorethroat and cough?
User :   nope
User :   started one night, with a feeling of being difficult to swallow spit
User :   only on one side
User :   then a bad cold, and cough with da throat thingy
Doctor :   Ok, this means there is swelling of the tissues in the throat
User :   oh ok
User :   but da ear on that side keeps intching so much
User :   and the throat,, is itching too on the same side
User :   but the feeling of something being stuck there is no mre
Doctor :   the swelling could be due to two reasons mainly infection and allergy
Doctor :   or both of them
Doctor :   Infection was rightly treated with Azithromycin
User :   yes this is the 3rd time i on it
Doctor :   Now you are just taking more time to recover
Doctor :   you need to follow some specific precautions during this period
User :   good, and what about the clicking in my throat
Doctor :   The possible explanation for this is thus
Doctor :   There is a connection between the ear and the throat which is called auditory tube
Doctor :   Too much of fluid accumulation in this can cause such clicking
Doctor :   because of pressure changes
User :   oh plus a gland on that side was swollen,,before cause everytime I swallowed I felt it going up and down,, the one under the jaw on the left side.. but now i think its going away
Doctor :   This explains the clicking, ear itching and delayed recovery
User :   aha, but whats clicking is the throat, not the ear
Doctor :   Clicking is the same
Doctor :   The gland is a lymph node that usually enlarges during infection or allergy
User :   like I feel somethings touching some part of the throat when I swallow. but its only when I sleep and wake up in da morn
Doctor :   so it takes a much longer time to come back to normal size than the symptomatic recovery
Doctor :   I have few tips for you
User :   so its cant be some thyroid cancer or something hopefully
User :   k
Doctor :   1) Before you go to bed, do a salt water gargling with warm water
User :   been doing it
Doctor :   2) The same immediately after getting up from bed
User :   k
Doctor :   3) If you are not able to get relief from Salt water, try putting DISPRIN tablet in the warm water
User :   will do
Doctor :   Continue that for at least 4 times a day
Doctor :   I mean after every meal
User :   oh right
Doctor :   The mucus accumulates more after every meal
Doctor :   because of mixture with salive
User :   btw , can crying too often lead to post nasal drip,... cause I lost my son 4 motnhs ago
Doctor :   Yes
User :   and since then. I cry at somepoint of the day
User :   specially at night,so was wondering if its onloy making my recovery take time
Doctor :   It is more unfortunate
Doctor :   I m sorry for that
User :   just 3 motnhs
Doctor :   Any form of stress can delay the recovery I agree
User :   mmm k ,thankyou so much
Doctor :   Do not think about any unusual causes like thyroid cancer for your simple problem
User :   :)
User :   k,its just that its been there for so long
Doctor :   Thank you
Doctor :   Hope you recover soon.
User :   but a dr who gave me wrong advice for my son was an indian,, anyway i think its just that god had other plans fo him,,,
User :   k
User :   thankyou so much, and may god bless you
User :   and ur family
Doctor :   Pleasure with me
