User :   this is regarding my mother age 82
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   sure please proceed
User :   hello
User :   my mother age 82 - has had diaoreah for 3 weeks and some sickness - just had results of blood tests and raised liver - what could this mean - not overweight and very fit
User :   she is going tomorrpw to see a gastroenterologist and to have camera up down - do we need to fear anything sinister - she has no blood showing
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   you mean she had abnormal liver function tests ?
User :   yes - they are raised and she has them every 3 months and always ok
Doctor :   can you tell me aboiut the abnormal blood tests ?
User :   all i know is that the liver function is raised and there is an abnormality with haemoglobin
Doctor :   it could mean that she had anemia
Doctor :   and your doctor is trying to check if she is losing blood from the stomach or intestines
User :   yes - why the diaoreah and occasional sickness - and no appetiote and also messing during the night whilst asleep - my concern is stomach cancer
User :   would the camera reveal cancer if it was present?
Doctor :   yes colonoscopy willl reveal any cancer or a benign polyp that is causing bleeding
User :   she is not showing any blood in stools or vomit
Doctor :   the bleeding usually can be microscopic and not directly visible
User :   and would that cause diaoreah and vomitting?
Doctor :   also since she is elderly (age 82), it is mandatory to do one in every 10 years to rule out cancer or polyps
Doctor :   and also conditions like diverticulosis
Doctor :   diarrhea and vomiting can be caused by diverticulosis, or a gastroenteritis
Doctor :   but your doctor is not checking for the diarrhea
User :   yes i understand - she had these symptoms in november and then improved but now back again for 3 weeks
User :   she has taken a stool sample today so that is being checked and i assume will reveal if necessary
Doctor :   he is checking the low Hb
User :   yes
Doctor :   yes that is right and will reveal any microscopic blood loss in the stools
User :   so all will be diagnosed tomorrow after the cameras i guess?
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   definitely
User :   maybe a parastiv infection i thought too
Doctor :   yes tapeworms can also cause this and can be detected by stool tests
User :   or helicolater pylori?
Doctor :   no not H pylori at this age
User :   anyway i thank you for your help - where are you ?
Doctor :   you are most welcome
Doctor :   bye for now
User :   forgot to mention if you re still there
Doctor :   yeah
User :   hardly eaten anything for 3 weeks and no weight loss which to me seems a littl;e strange
Doctor :   im here
Doctor :   this is ok,
Doctor :   at this age, the nutritional requirement would not be that high
User :   ok
Doctor :   you need not be worried
Doctor :   as her condition may be treated easily with iron supplements
