User :   Hello I am 57 yr old male. When I go to bed soonafter I am awkened with chest congestion and must force out sputem which is clear. During day I have very little need to clear and really no coughto speak of.
Doctor :   since how long have you been experiencing it ?
User :   About 4 weeks
Doctor :   any chest pain ?
User :   No none at all
Doctor :   do you have another medical problems ?
User :   I do suffer from aniety at times, a little asthma after a cold. nothing more I am aware of
Doctor :   When you have chest congestion, it is generally advised that you drink a lot of fluids. Water is useful in flushing out toxins from the body and therefore water should be used so that harmful bacteria are flushed out from the system. When your body is hydrated properly, the mucous in the chest gets softened and is easily coughed out.
Doctor :   Yellow colored fruits and vegetables are rich in beta carotene and anti oxidants. Both aid in the correct functioning of the lungs. Spinach, papaya, berries are good sources of beta carotene and anti oxidants and therefore should be included in good quantities in all your meals.
Doctor :   have you been taking any medications ?
Doctor :   did you get an Xray done ?
User :   Ok I will. Any thing come to mind why only at night I have sputem. No xray as I am waiting on an appointment, also I delayed, have to admit very scared
Doctor :   dont be it seems you do have a respiratory infection and the good thing is that its curable with a course of antibiotics
Doctor :   but you do need to get 2 important tests done
Doctor :   one is called sputum analysis and other is of course your chest X ray
User :   Ok Thank You
Doctor :   your most welcome
Doctor :   also
Doctor :   Hot foods also kill bacteria. Eating spicy foods like peppers, jalapeno and chilies can actually help get rid of the unwanted bacteria. The heat also helps the congested mucus to become thin.
Doctor :   you can simply use eucalyptus oil which is commonly available at drug stores. The eucalyptus oil helps in clearing out the congestion and removing the phlegm from the body. Most likely, the oil will make you sweat and cause a runny nose. The runny nose will help eliminate the clogged phlegm, thus clearing the airways and freeing your lungs of any congestion. It also helps open up the sinus cavities, thus helping in breathing better.
Doctor :   but along with it the lab tests are important
User :   Thank You for your help
Doctor :   your most welcome
Doctor :   take care
