User:Hello Dr.Good evening..This is XXXXXXX from XXXXXXX Chennai. My sister is suffering from Gastro-oesophagal reflux disease.May i know any specialist or specialised clinic or hospitals in chennai for this.?
User:Good Evenning Dr...
Doctor:Good evening.
Doctor:GERD can be managed by a gastroenterologist
Doctor:You can visit any of the reputed hospitals like Apollo
Doctor:She may be asked to undergo a procedure called endoscopy
User:She is 37 now and married...she has this problem some 2 years before and later on it was subsided automatically..she suffered for 2 years...consulted many doctors in lots of hospitals...after 2years of interval..she is again experiencing this for the past two months...
Doctor:which will tell us more about her condition.
Doctor:GERD is a chronic condition which is related to individuals lifestyle.
User:She had been to Apollo, XXXXXXX hospitals etc....wanted to check whether any other specialist\specialised clinic on this is available in chennai or around..?
Doctor:Increased stress, reduced sleep, irregular diet, too much coffee/tea, increased weight and so on will increase incidence of GERD
Doctor:Change in lifestyle, good sleep and regular diet will keep GERD symptoms away.
User:Yes...recently...her father-in-law expired 2months before and because of this, there was lack of sleep, etc..she faced...may be that may be the reason for re-occurence..
Doctor:If she has not undergone endoscopy in the past,
Doctor:getting it done will be useful
Doctor:It will tell us the extent of the problem.
Doctor:That would have been the reason for recurrence.
User:she has undergone endoscopy in the past and also recently also she undergone and was given with some medications..
Doctor:At this point, I would like to remind you that,
Doctor:the condition can only prevented,
Doctor:if all those lifestyle and diet factors I mentioned earlier
Doctor:are well maintained.
Doctor:I mean, even if you see the most experienced doctor too,
Doctor:the medical drugs given to her
Doctor:will only keep the symptoms away for that particular period alone.
Doctor:Re-evaluation is only to check if there are any worsening of symptoms.
Doctor:And not improvement of treatment.
Doctor:She will need to follow a diet at regular intervals,
Doctor:sleep regularly,
Doctor:keep her weight in ideal limits,
Doctor:exercise for a 15-20 mins every day for 5 days a week.
Doctor:Avoid high spicy diet
Doctor:Reduce coffee/tea, chocolate intake.
Doctor:Only these measures will prevent her symptoms from occuring.
Doctor:Have you followed?
User:True....Sure Dr...Thank you very much for your detailed reply on this.I think changing the lifestyle & diet itself will solve our major healthproblems and keep us healthy....!
Doctor:That's the most effective method to treat GERD.
Doctor:Medical drugs like proton pump inhibitors (Omeprazole/pantoprazole) are usually prescribed during acute symptoms
