User :   Hi.

I have gallstones, which were discovered by accident during an ultrasound for something else.

As they have nevr bothered me, I hadn´t planned any surgery, and as they are small, I was considering trying Actigall to dissolve them instead.

Today though, I have had some abdominal pain...not very painful...perhaps a 1 on a scale of 1 to 10, but a dull aching pain in my right side all day.

I also have clay coloured stools.

Do I need to see a doctor, or is this not serious? What symptoms should I watch out for carefully?

Doctor :
Since you have symptoms of obstruction due to the gall stones
Doctor :
it is better you see a doctor.
Doctor :
Have you followed?
User :   Yes. Should I be worried now?
Doctor :
May i know since when are you passing clay coloured stools?
User :   Just today
Doctor :
And is the pain persistent?
User :   I actually had this once before, but then I didn´t know I had gallstones :) the pain has been all day
User :   but it isn´t very painful...I can almost ignore it
User :   but now I am worried!
Doctor :   The quality of the pain that you are experiencing now, is it similar to the ones before?

User :   yes
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :
Do you have fever?
User :   I had tbhis same pain for 1 month last year...but thought it was IBS
User :   no fever
Doctor :
Do you have vomiting?
User :   no
Doctor :
Ok.
Doctor :
It would be difficult to predict the cause of the pain now.
Doctor :
Since you have both IBS and Gall stone based on the history alone.
User :   but with clay coloured stools also?
User :   (I dont think I have IBS the doctor confused this with gallstones)
Doctor :
Ok.
Doctor :   If IBS have been ruled out then the only possibility would be due to the gall stones.
Doctor :
Pain in gall stones occur when the gallbladder starts to push the obstructed stone.
User :   and if I have a blockage, is this an emergency tonight? Or is it ok to see doctor tomorrow?
User :   or maybe will it just pass?
Doctor :
And since you all so report passing clay coloured stools it would be likely.
Doctor :
A few stones may pass away naturally.
Doctor :
But few may not.
Doctor :
If it does not pass away then it can cause complications.
Doctor :
And hence all obstructed gallstones are emergencies.
User :   so I should go tonight?
Doctor :   You can go have a check up done at the earliest.
Doctor :
If the pain becomes severe then you may have to go immediately.
User :   Can you tell me, ç
Doctor :
The severity of the pain predicts the urgency of the situation.
User :   ahhh
User :   So if the pain is only small, the blockage is probably not severe?
Doctor :   Yes.
User :   Great!
Doctor :
But do not wait till the pain can increase and become severe.
User :   thank you...I was worried about Pancreas blockage, which my doctor said was dangerous
Doctor :
Get it checked at the earliest as possible.
User :   I will see the doctor tomorrow. Thank you
Doctor :   Yes.
Doctor :
that would be great.
Doctor :
