User :   my dad is 70 years old and was diagnosed 2 years ago with prostate cancer he has been threw radiation, chemotherapy, and hormone shot. whawill happen to him if his kidneys start to fail?
User :   hello good evening?
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :
is there any symptoms of kidney dysfunction ?
User :   well the doctor told me that the cancer had spread toward his kidneys and liver .as well as to his bones and the nerves on his back so thats worrying me...
Doctor :   yes cancer of prostate spreads faster to multiple organs this we call metastasis
Doctor :   what is the stage of his prostate cancer now ?
User :   stage 4
Doctor :
it was palliative chemo and radiotherapy
Doctor :
did he improve in his general condition after the therapy
User :   he got radiation about a year ago and this past years he was getting the chemo but his body couldnt tolarated many different side effects and his weighing only 88lbs.
User :   no he did not
Doctor :   the metastasis spread to different organs of the body will cause local destruction of the organ and in turn dysfunction of the organ affected
Doctor :   it will be progressive
Doctor :
not only kidney which all the organs it has spread over a period of time will show dysfunction
User :   so would he need some type of treatment if his kidneys do fail?
User :   what would happen to him?
Doctor :   yes if it shows any signs of failure that will be detected in the blood test blood urea and serum creatinine than he may require dialysis and he should be on the kidney dysfunction special diet
Doctor :
kidney failure will increase the harmful ammonia in the body and will cause other major organs like brain and liver dysfunction
User :   so it would be just a matter of time?
Doctor :   yes
