User :   My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant naturally for 3 years. Recently we started having tests to find out why we have not conceived. 3 months ago my husbands sperm count came back at 16 million (rather low!) and two days ago he did another test which has come back at 0.9 million, this is a big drop! His WBC came back at 2-4, does this mean he has an infection? could this be making his sperm count low?
Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hi
Doctor :   WBC is not the big concer here
Doctor :   it is only 2-4
User :   okay....
Doctor :   If you are really concerned 1 wk course of Oflox will treat it
Doctor :   The concern here is why 0.9 million
Doctor :   It should be 20 millions
User :   He has been taking supplements of zinc, gingseng, selenium, and a multi vit. could this be having a negative effect?
User :   What exactly will oflox be treating?
Doctor :   Actually they increase sperm count
Doctor :   oflaxacillin is antibitic
User :   Thats what we thought but then we got that sperm count result back and started to wonder?
Doctor :   if u r worried abt infectuion 1 week course will treat urinart tract infection
Doctor :   But the infection is not at all the cause of low sperms
User :   So what could be the cause of the drop?
Doctor :   IGood Q
Doctor :   because the sperm count was 16 m before and dropped to .9 m
Doctor :   defintely, sampling error could be the cause
Doctor :   when was the first and when was the second sample done
User :   aaah, we did wonder if this could be the cause
Doctor :   dried up semen has no sperm
User :   The first sample was done in November and the second one was done last week
Doctor :   sperms die if not examined with in 30 minutes
Doctor :   was the semen collected in lab or at home
User :   It was at the lab within 15 minutes (we live beside the hospital)
Doctor :   what is the time gap between collection and examination
Doctor :   were you there in lab while waiting for results
User :   15 mins
Doctor :   ok
User :   no, we went home and collected results in 2 days
Doctor :   May be technical errors in lab
Doctor :   May be lab technician delayed
Doctor :   may be prcessing tie was delayed
User :   so.... we should do another sample?
User :   liquification took 60 mins, this is not normal either is it?
Doctor :   I recommend you discuss the matter with lab technician clearly, and take proper precautions , and cillect the third sample
Doctor :   60 min is ok
Doctor :   better earlier
User :   okay, he can put in a 3rd sample and we will go from there. Thanks for the advice
Doctor :   Bye
