User :   Hi, I was reaching up for something and felt a slight pain and pull in my upper back, could I have pulled something or can you sometimes do that and not pull anything?
Doctor :   Hi,
Doctor :   that could be a muscle pull ,
Doctor :   resulting in a spasmic contraction of the same muscle leading into pain
Doctor :   Are you continuing to have pain ?
User :   I did at first but not anymore so much
Doctor :   yes, the pain will be self limiting most of times
Doctor :   well its not serious , rest for some time and get back to your normal work it will be enough
User :   but is there a chance that it could not be muscle pull and sometimes you just feel a slight pain without doing a muscle pull
User :   how long do you think it will take to heal if it is a muscle pull, actually right now
Doctor :   it depends on the act that caused it
Doctor :   but most of times they do not last for more than 2 or 3 days
User :   so it won't take weeks for a muscle pull to heal then and is my act considered less so it will take less time for it to heal
User :   hope that makes sense
Doctor :   yes, i do consider its minor type in you
User :   Like to be more specific I was reaching up and putting something away and went on my tippy toes to lift up and as I stretched to lift up I felt the pull all across my upper back like right under my shoulder blades and it hurt for a little while after it even into my front like my upper abdomen so that is still considered minor and it should heal around 2 to 3 days not weeks
Doctor :   yes, i do feel the same
User :   what is the longest it could take to heal
Doctor :   a week in severe cases where the sprain also involved the joints
Doctor :   if only with the muscle pull , not more than 3 days
User :   ok thanks where is then some muscle pulls take like 6 weeks to heal
Doctor :   it is when the pull is so strong that it causes tendon injury , joint dislocation or ligament tear
User :   how do I know for sure that I didn't do one of those
Doctor :   the pain would be more or excruciating
