User :   We have a 3 year old boy who has just finished taking antibiotics for a sinus infection. Today we noticed he has black looking tar like substance in both ears. He has been playing with his toys today and other then a runny nose and cough he is not complaigning of ear ache. He does have ear tubes and has been whiney today but not does not act overly sick.. Should we be concenerned enough for ER visit?
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   Ok , I have seen your query.
Doctor :   How much is the tary substance in ears and how deep is it ?
Doctor :   Can you give the generic name of the antibiotic that you have given to the child ?
User :   apears to be right at the entrance of the ear canal. It is very oblviously black looking. I noticed it easily when I was outside and put him in car seat.
Doctor :   Ok.
User :   Azithromycin200 /5ml SUS
Doctor :   Ok.
User :   We gave him half teaspoon full a day for 5 dyas
Doctor :   Has his sinus infection come down and hopw he is not having any ear discharge or pain aprt from what you have seen ?
User :   He has today covered his ears with his hands in responce to load noises.
Doctor :   Ok.
User :   Sinus infection seems better not all the green snot. But he has had a non stop runny nose.
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   Do you see any discharge from ears or does anything he complain of regarding hearing ?
User :   We have not seen a discharge he does not seem to be in pain and is running around right now
Doctor :   Then I would say nothing to worry, As Azithromycin has an effect on urine color and other body fluids.
User :   Thanks
Doctor :   Not to worry. But I would recommmend Cleaning of the ears by Hydrogen peroxide after this bout of cold, rhinitis and sinusitis.
Doctor :   Please do not expose him to cold weather, cool drinks or cold food.
Doctor :   May aggravate the sinuses.
User :   Do you put it on a que tip or pour it in? We are worried about the ear tubes
Doctor :   Please do not do it yourself , please take the help of a paramedic, that would be fine .
User :   Will do.
Doctor :   Cold weather would cause infection in ears and cause Otitis externa and aggravate,
Doctor :   Thank you for ocnsulting me.
Doctor :   Do oyu have anything else to ask ?
Doctor :   Take care, bye for now.
