User :   Hi, my wife has this condition that when she cries to hard she gets shortness of breath, she can barely grasp air to the point that she might fall to the floor as her body gets weak due to the lack of air or she vomits after which she feels ok, when she cries she gets alot of mucus coming out of her and she keeps trying to blow her nose to breath. Is this a medical condition that she has to see a doctor, what should i do in that situation
Doctor :   hi
Doctor :   Dr. XXXXXXXX here. Let me read what you have typed.
Doctor :   the symptoms that she is having while crying is a combined effect of structural and psychological problem
Doctor :   she should get an evaluation done to rule out any structural abnormality causing this problem
Doctor :   once the cause is found to be structural issue, she will need surgical correction to take out the obstruction that might be happening during crying
Doctor :   if the problem is found to be psychological, she will need counselling sessions to help her overcome it.
Doctor :   have you followed what I have said?
Doctor :   are you there?
User :   yes
User :   what do u mean by structural issues
Doctor :   structural issues are problems in the anatomy or the body structures
Doctor :   for her it could be overgrown tonsil or bony abnormality
User :   oh ok, so is there anything i can do to help her out when this happens
Doctor :   or a soft tissue swelling in air passages
Doctor :   she should not cry, and if she does, then makes sure it is a smaaler bout
Doctor :   and divert her to different things
User :   well she just had an operation 2 weeks ago cause she found a lump on the right side if her neck
Doctor :   make sure that she takes good breaths in between
Doctor :   ok
User :   so what kind of specilaist should i take her to, throat
Doctor :   why does she cry so much? is she under depression?
User :   no usually when we fight, shes very sensetive
Doctor :   she will need evaluation by an ENT surgeon first, and if found to be normal, she will need to be evaluated by a psychiatrist.
User :   it doesnt happen much but when she does its really bad
Doctor :   ok. is she having this problem by birth? or has it developed in recent times?
User :   from birth
Doctor :   ok, then either of the possibilities.
Doctor :   I would recommend you to get her a thorough evaluation done.
Doctor :   and proceed with treatment as indicated by the examination and investigation results
Doctor :   to stop these episodes.
User :   ok, so the only thing i can do is distract her when she gets them
Doctor :   yes, at home these can be done, to distract her by calming her down.
Doctor :   but it will not be a permanent remedy
Doctor :   get to to root cause of the problem, and get it corrected to have permanent benefits
User :   what about the mucus, is it possible its building up in her throut that she cant breath from it
Doctor :   the mucus could be due to accumulation of tears and also could be related to her recent operation.
