User :   hi doc, i recently got tested for std s but i was not tested for herpes, hpv or hep c. the history behind my worries is i have had sex twice with a high risk person ,unportected oral sex and protected vaginal first time, second time with a high risk person, was protected oral sex and protected vaginal sex. after each time i got tested but for some reason they did not test for the std s mentioned above. i should mention i don't have any symptoms although i do have acne on thighs but i always have since i was a child. no real symptoms however and its been 3 months now. reason am worried is online various sites say you dont have to have symptoms to be positive. tnxs
Doctor :   Hi
User :   halo
Doctor :
Let me read through that you have typed.
Doctor :   I agree to you.
Doctor :
Since you have high risk exposures you can get tests for herpes, HPV, hepatitis infections too.
Doctor :   How can I help you in this matter?
User :   is it possible to get herpes from the one unprotected oral sex encounter
Doctor :
Herpes is an infection that spreads through contact.
Doctor :
I cannot predict what are the percentage that you may get infected by oral sex.
Doctor :
As a doctor, I can only say that contact with some one who has herpes infection, increases the chances of you getting the infection.
Doctor :
Have you followed?
User :   yes
Doctor :
The same applies to all the other infections too.
Doctor :   And regarding your previous query.
User :   when i went to the clinic to get tested i asked to get herpes and hpv test too and they told me no need if i have no symptoms why is that.
Doctor :   Asymptomatic infections are not common with these infections.
Doctor :
However, you may have asymptomatic infections with Hepatitis infections.
Doctor :   So you do not have to wait for the symptoms to check for the presence of hepatitis.
Doctor :
The other two infections, most often produce infections.
Doctor :
That is the basis why they may have asked you to wait for the symptoms.
Doctor :
The second reasons why they may have not done the test are.
User :   i was tested the first time for hep a and b the second time when i called for results they told me i was negative for hep c although they dont usually test for hep c
User :   i also read online that it is unheard of that hep c is transmitted by oral sex
Doctor :
Herpes and HPV infection are diagnosed by doing a PCR study from a smear prepared from the site of affected lesion.
Doctor :
Hepatitis C is transmitted to sexual contact too.
Doctor :
hepatitis E is transmitted by feco oral route.
Doctor :
And others are transmitted by sexual route too.
Doctor :
Have you followed?
User :   yes so it is possbile to get hep c through oral ok
Doctor :
Yes, if your partner has the infection.
User :   so basically doctor i should not be worried about herpes or hpv as i have had no visible outbreaks
Doctor :   The diagnosis can be made if you have visible out breaks alone.
Doctor :
But if you are anxious of the symptoms, you may go
Doctor :
for the test by using the blood,
User :   so there is no general herpes test to see if you have it you must have an outbreak
Doctor :
You can get the Herpes, HPV - DNA PCR tests.
Doctor :
This is done by using blood sample and not from the smear from the affected lesions.
Doctor :
The chances of these showing up positive reports are less when you have no symptoms.
Doctor :
These test are only to alleviate the fear.
Doctor :
and the anxiety.
Doctor :
Hope you have understood that.
User :   so basically it is best to get tested if you develop symptoms
Doctor :
Yes, the test for Herpes and HPV infection is if you develop symptoms.
Doctor :
As they commonly cause symptoms.
Doctor :
But it is not necessary that test for diagnosing the infections has to be done only if you develop the symptoms.
Doctor :
Have you followed?
User :   it is been 3 months and i have no symptoms of herpes or hpv all i have is pimple on thighs which i have always got since a child can these be an std
Doctor :
