User :   hi i have been diagnosed with tonsillitis and have been taking 500mg penicillan 4 times a day for 48 hours but my symptoms are getting worse. how long does it take for the antibiotics to work? am i taking the right anti biotics?

Doctor :   It usually takes a full course of An Antibiotic to releive you of teh symptoms and infection.
Doctor :   So it might take at least four to five days.
User :   oh i see. i thought it would show improvement within 24 hours
Doctor :   Are you taking any pain killers apart from the antibiotic ?
Doctor :   As it usually takes at least takes 4-5 days to decrease the pain.
User :   i have been taking codeine and paracetomol but they dont really work. any other suggestions?

Doctor :   I would suggest that there can be infection to other lymph glands around in your throat.
User :   should i return to my GP?
Doctor :   Yes I would suggest that.
Doctor :   But please wait for two more days if you can bear the pain ?

Doctor :   As sometimes the pain,symptoms come down by the 4th day.
