User :   Hello,
I'm a 47 years old female. I'm having some hormonal issues. My period are irregular and my bleeding is prolonged. My doctor prescribed I take 2 tablets of estradiol per day (2 mg each) for 4 days & then 10 mg of Provera for 20 days. I've never taken these before & concerned about the risks. My immediate concern is that I have adenomyosis which is affected by estrogen & if I take the estradiol, it will make the situation worst because it's estrogen & i thought estrogen builds up the lining of the uterus. They gave me a shot of progesterone last cycle & that stopped the bleeding for 30 days & this cycle, the shot stopped it for only 4 days. I got the shot on 9/21 & the cycle returned on 9/25 & has slowed down, but hasn't stopped. I'm currently anemic due to this & taking iron supplement. The blood test was taken on 9/30 which is day 6 of the bleeding after the start of the new cycle. The results show estrogen at 25, progesterone at 2, LH at 9.4 & FSH at 46. The doctor says bases on the FSH I'm menopausal , but based on the LH I'm not. Other previous tests & pelvic exams reveal no malignancy. For now, I was want a safe way to stop the bleeding & not have to worry about the consequences when I stop these pills. He also wants me to do Lupron shots to reduce the adenomyosis. Honestly, it isn't bothering me, except for the heavy cycles (if that's the cause). I need a 2nd opinion on the treatment protocol given by my doctor. Thank you.
