User :   While i was running the other day my left knee popped but i didn't feel any pain at first. Later that day I started getting pain behind my knee when I would stand up, go up stairs or turn while walking along with a buckling that felt like my knee would just give out on me. I went to the local doc that my provider referred me to and he checked my ACL/MCL through movements and said i was fine but told me to stay off it for a week or so. Well that week is up and I still get the pain. Even today while doing sit-ups it popped on me again and i was only able to do 6 more before it felt like the old "white hot poker" reference. I can sometimes walk just fine but randomly, be it the way i turn or twist, i get the searing pain again and the knee buckles on me. I'm waiting for another appointment but I'm hoping that my military provider will set me up for an MRI. Is there anything I can do while i wait or does any of this sound familiar to anyone?
Doctor :   hello
User :   Hi
User :   Hello Dr
Doctor :   give me a min please. let me go thru your query
Doctor :   may i know your age and gender please ?
User :   just turned 42 Male
Doctor :   ok and the first time it happened a week back right ?
User :   right
User :   since then my knee has basically felt like a bag of marbles and very weak. I don't know if its just me thinking about it so much or if it's actually like that but I do still get the pain while standing up or getting out of the car etc. Also when i turn while walking sometimes it happens
Doctor :   ok now to begin with
Doctor :   when the first time it happened
Doctor :   and the physician told you to rest it was not just for a week BUT MINIMUM 4 weeks
Doctor :   and thats what has now aggravated the problem
User :   I was told a week and my military provider put me on a profile for that one week after phone consultation with the local doctor I went to
Doctor :   and now yes a MRI is must
Doctor :   as that will tell us if there is any ligament tear
User :   that's what I'm going to ask for tomorrow morning when I call my provider again.
Doctor :   sure dont worry since its stress injury related so it will be cured
Doctor :   are you in pain >?
Doctor :   have you taken any medication ?
User :   no medication I was going to start taking some Motrine but as for the pain it's not a constant pain. Just when I start walking around it randomly pops up and also most of the time when I stand up out of a chair or get out of my car, walk up stairs. That sort of thing
Doctor :   ok well now rest is CRUCIAL
Doctor :   and you can take motrine thats ok
Doctor :   and do ask for the MRI tomorrow
User :   Ok. Does it sound like a tear or could it just be I stretched something or maybe hyperextended the knee
Doctor :   it can be anything as all the conditions have similar problems and its difficult to tell without doing a physical examination
User :   makes sense Thank you for your time and I'll make sure to ask for an MRI
Doctor :   your most welcome
Doctor :   take care and once again do rest
Doctor :   have a good one
