User :   I am 28 years old. I had a radical hysterectomy 3 years ago due to leiomyosarcoma. I am now have all sorts of problems. I have been to doctors and tried everything everyone told me. I need help. I have infection after infection (bladder, bacterial, yeast, UTI). I itch all the time. My husband cant touch with without me going through the roof. I recently found out that I have staples left over my surgery. Could all my problems be because of this?
Doctor :   Hi,
User :   Hello
User :   All I want to know is if the staples left inside could be the cause for all my problems
Doctor :   the material in the staples will be biologically inert
User :   I dont know what that means
Doctor :   it means they do not cause any type of reaction to the blood or the flesh inside
Doctor :   may not be the direct effect of the left in staples yes, there are chances where the problem you facing could be due to staples and that is rare
User :   Yea well you are currently talking to one of the rarest people in the world... Anything that it's supposed to happen to someone happens to me
User :   I mean seriously being diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma at age 24, I have a wide range of allergies the way it is
User :   25 sorry, I was 25 years old when I was diagnosed
Doctor :   i consider it, but believe me the staple material is inert to any living being
User :   what are they made of?
Doctor :   but , as i said indirect effects of the staples like pressure on the arteries ( blood vessels ) or any important structures inside may rise to situations
Doctor :   and they are rare
User :   that didnt answer my question.... What are the staples made OF? Material wise..... surgical steel? Titanium? some other metal?
Doctor :   titanium or stainless steel
User :   could be either...
User :   ok thanks for your help
Doctor :   its stainless steel commonly used'
Doctor :   Have you got a USG ( ultra sound scan ) of the abdomen and pelvis after the surgery
User :   no, CT and MRI but no ultrasound
Doctor :   When was the CT done ?
User :   I have had about 5 of then since the surgery
User :   I am due for another one this week
Doctor :   When was the last one ?
User :   last year
Doctor :   ok, since when are you having the problems like frequent infections ?
User :   since right after my surgey....
User :   at first it wasnt that often
User :   then it became more frequesnt
User :   frequent I meant
User :   and now I don't go a single day without being itchy and just about every other day when i pee it feel like I am peeing lava
Doctor :   Ok, have you got a culture study on the urine ?
User :   I tried new soaps, antibiotics, natural remedies, creams
User :   they have done everything...
User :   each time its one or the other
User :   bacterial, UTI, bladder or yeast
User :   over and over and over its a constant battle
Doctor :   I understand , did you see any pattern in the type of the infections
User :   no, they just come when they want and its always different or at least not in any certain order
Doctor :   i mean same strain of the bacteria repeated in the culture test
User :   they havent said
Doctor :   Have you got a fungal culture
User :   no
Doctor :   , ok i understand Please answer my questions , i am getting confused
User :   I am answering
User :   no, i did not have a fungal culture done
Doctor :   ok, i get it
User :   the doctors have not told me if its the same strain or not
Doctor :   How many bacterial cultures have you done , and what was the common result
Doctor :   oh, i would advice you to get the culture for both bacteria and fungus
User :   about 7-10 in the past year and either bacterial or UTI was most common... and they keep telling me yeast
Doctor :   the test will surely help and give detailed insight into the recurrent infections you having
User :   a bacterial culture and a fungal culture? and if they don't show anything helpful? then what? should I be tested for a matel allergy to see if it
Doctor :   i will ask you to confirm it by the culture test
User :   it's the staples causing it
Doctor :   i do not think so
User :   ok I think I got all the info I could get
User :   thanks
Doctor :   You are welcome
