User :   I am a singer for a XXX. I have been battling a virus this past week and have allegy to dust. My asthma has been kicking in and now I have to sing this morning in church after resting my voice and I think I have pharyngitis. The cords will not vibrate freely and I sound like a 70 old lady who can't sing!!
I am under pressure, there is no substitute for me. advice please.
I do not want to go embarass myself with this mess.
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   I am Dr. XXX
Doctor :   Let me read the query
Doctor :   Give me a couple of minutes
Doctor :   What is your age?
User :   53 I am a vocal music teacher with XXX. I treat my voice well.
Doctor :   Ok, since how long your voice is problematic?
Doctor :   Are you with me?
User :   one week. I saw my ENT Tuesday and he said it was allergy/virus. Gave me a nasal spray for the PNdrip. I used it a few times but have not felt results. At one point my nose swelled up
Doctor :   The best advice for you at this time would be is voice rest completely till you sing in the church
Doctor :   Next would be to inhalate steam vapors
User :   I discovered last evening it cleared when I ate some salty chips. Would salt help too?
Doctor :   I also suggest you to drink warm milk with pepper powder before the actual
User :   I've tryed lemon
Doctor :   singing
Doctor :   No salty chips
User :   why milk
Doctor :   Warm milk with black pepper powder helps
Doctor :   Actually pepper tastes well with milk
Doctor :   and usually we advice fluids with pepper
User :   but singers are always told never to drink mild before singing. It creates mucus
Doctor :   IF you do not lik milk
Doctor :   you can have with warm water
User :   Why no salt?
Doctor :   The mucus creates after an hour so you just have to clear the throat with pepper that is the idea
Doctor :   I said no salty chips
User :   Well, I will go to the church and warm up with the organist. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. They can decide if they want to hear m croak and pay me for it. They will be the fools.
Doctor :   I think you wont let them down
Doctor :   Just rest your voice and I hope you do not need reharsals
Doctor :   and inhale steam
Doctor :   and drink pepper based fluid
Doctor :   This is the best you can do
User :   How kind of you to say so. I really think unless a singer, people have no idea the stress we are under when the body isn't in top shape, anyone can blow a french horn!
Doctor :   Salty chips contain fat / oil
Doctor :   they do not help, so next time, no salty chips
Doctor :   Depend on fluids
Doctor :   Fluids tend to reduce the edema / swelling of the cords
User :   Thank you . I better get ready to leave.
Doctor :   Good luck
Doctor :   Hope you have a great day
Doctor :   Bye for now
