User :   I have a red area on my penis. I looked up all the stds and the pics are all extreme and doesn't look like what I have. I would like to ease my mind or at least have an educated guess at what it is before I have to go to my doctors. I would be able to send a pic to help with the problem. Thanks
Doctor :   Hi'
User :   Hello
Doctor :
May I know your age?
User :   29
Doctor :
Since when have you noticed the redness?
User :   a couple of days ago
Doctor :
Do you have itching?
User :   slight
Doctor :
Do you have white discharge?
User :   no
Doctor :
Do you have fever?
User :   no discharges at all
User :   no
Doctor :
If it is possible can you send the scan pictured of the area of affected.
User :   i can
Doctor :
You can send the picture to this email id.
Doctor :
YYYY@YYYY
Doctor :
Are you sexually active?
User :   yes
Doctor :
When was your last sexual intercourse?
Doctor :
And may I know who your partner was?
User :   a week ago
Doctor :   May I know who your partner was?
User :   what do you mean?
User :   I sent a couple pics
Doctor :
I would like to know if you had sexual intercourse whose details you know or with an unknown person(not to offend you, would be helpful in knowing about the condition)
User :   i know and she says she is clean
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :
Did you practice safe and protected sex?
User :   safe, but there was some external touching
Doctor :
Ok
Doctor :
I have seen the picture.
User :   the camera wasn't the best,
Doctor :   yes, i could make that out.
Doctor :
It looks like an area which is inflammed.
User :   yes, but there is no point like a pimple, it reminds of a blister on my foot when i run
Doctor :
It could have occurred due to the contact allergic reaction.
Doctor :
It is most often harmless and should go away in a few days.
User :   is there any over the counter lotions i could use
Doctor :
I would suggest you to use calamine lotions local applications.
User :   the thing i am most worried about is herpes, how does that begin, i have seen the pics on the internet and they are the extreme cases not the beginning
Doctor :
Herpes generally presents as a cluster of blister like lesions.
User :   they resemble pimples correct?
Doctor :
It is like cluster of small pimples.
Doctor :   the size of each pimple would be few millimeters and not as big as the one you have.
User :   could this be a cluster real close together?
Doctor :   Though the image is blurred, your lesion looks more like an isolated papule and not cluster of blisters.
Doctor :   Have you followed?
User :   i am
Doctor :
Ok.
User :   so it is a reaction, some lotion and it will go away, what would be the next step with herpes
Doctor :
The lesion of the herpes can be treated by using antiviral medications.
Doctor :
But a complete cure would take a long time as there are chances of recurrences.
User :   i understand that, i am asking if it is herpes doesn't something come after the redness
User :   i understands herpes doesn't really go away, i meant the steps of the outbreak or process
Doctor :   do you mean prophylaxis or prevention of recurrence?
User :   no, if this is the beginning of herpes i thought the blisters open and have discharges
Doctor :
It is definitely to early to predict if it is a herpes infection.
Doctor :
Hence a few test may be required to diagnose it.
Doctor :
the test include ELISA Test for herpes antibodies.
Doctor :
Alternatively a DNA PCR test can be done to diagnose the presence of infection,
Doctor :
The antiviral therapy would be started if these tests come postive.
User :   i understand that, i just want to be able to rule out one for the other, if it's a reaction it should go away without help. If it is herpes shouldn't the outbreak become worse with the blisters become scabs?
User :   I don't want to rush to the doctor for this medicine and this just be an allergic reaction
User :   What I have seen online is that there will be follow on syptoms other than the redness I have so far.
Doctor :   You may try the calamine lotion for local application and get an opinion from a dermatologist.

Doctor :
Since you do not have other symptoms like fever, white discharge, it most probably is not due to the herpes infection.
User :   Thats what I am asking if this was herpes, not saying that it is, what would come after the red bumps
User :   so I know if this happens to go to my doctor
Doctor :
Ok
Doctor :   I shall explain in to you again in detail.
Doctor :
The herpes usually presents as a cluster of blisters.
Doctor :
Usually these blisters over a period of time
Doctor :   form scabs which can peel away.
Doctor :
this can later heal slowly
Doctor :
or form ulcers.
Doctor :
It is usually associated with pain and itching.
Doctor :
You may also have fever occasionally.
User :   how long does that take to happen, the scabs to form after the clusters
Doctor :
And occasionally you may have discharge also.
Doctor :
The time interval varies.
User :   on average less than a week or more
Doctor :   On an average a week to 10 days.
Doctor :
The scab can heal of or later form ulcers.
User :   so I need to be worried if this starts to scab over otherwise I am pretty safe
Doctor :   These lesion can present in a different way if there is secondary infection.
Doctor :   Yes you need to report to a doctor if you find any increase in the redness or if you develop fever/discharge.
Doctor :   And definitely if you find the changes as i had mentioned earlier.
User :   to easy, how long should this last if it is a reaction to something
Doctor :
If you avoid unnecessarily handling it with bare fingers it should heal of in 2 to 3 days.
Doctor :
I would suggest you to just wash the area with clean soap once or twice a day and apply the lotion.
Doctor :   It would fade away in 2 to 3 days time.
Doctor :
Have you followed?
User :   i have started to use lotrimin, should that help
Doctor :
Lotrimin is an antibacterial lotion.
Doctor :
You may use it too.
User :   but go buy some calamine lotion to speed this up
Doctor :   Calamine lotion are soothening agents.
Doctor :
it is good for itching.
Doctor :
Since the only symptom you gave to me was itchihng, it should suffice.
User :   the itching isn't bad, the first day was a little but now nothing really,
Doctor :
Alternative to this would be simple vaseline.
User :   so just leave it alone and it should be good in a week or so
Doctor :   Yes. preventing secondary infection is the most important then application of the lotion
User :   thats just keeping it clean and normal hygiene correct
Doctor :   Yes, that is right.
Doctor :
Do you have any other query?
User :   no, thanks for the help, hopefully it is a reaction
Doctor :
