User :   hi my son is 15 months old and has just been diagnose with haemophilus influenza and has already tried amoxyl, keflex, and ear drops got any other suggestions, he they work but once stopped the symptoms come back after 1 day
Doctor :   Hi Give me a moment to review your query.
Doctor :   Is your son otherwise healthy? No health problems or immune concerns?
User :   he is healthy except this problem has a moist cough to
Doctor :   I see. Occasionally a viral infection can complicate the clearance of H Influenza
Doctor :   Was he tested again for the H Influenza?
Doctor :   Or just prior to Amoxil and Kelfex?
User :   so what should i do to fix this it has been going on since he was a new born baby especially the thick green mucus from his nose yeah he was its positive
Doctor :   I see, well if this has been an issue since birth, I would suggest you have his pediatrician do a comprehensive assessment for certin things which can predispose to excessive secretions
Doctor :   This includes allergy such as food or environmental allergy
Doctor :   Also, his doctor can test his immune system to assure that he has adequate immune function
Doctor :   Sometimes a simple adjustment in diet can improve these kinds of things
User :   he has also just had his adnoids out adn grommets in as they thought that it was his adnoids causing this probem ok what about treating his symptoms now?/?
Doctor :   They could consider a different class of antibiotic
Doctor :   such as Macrolide class
Doctor :   One that comes to mind is Azithromycin
User :   he is about 7 weeks post op
Doctor :   Also, how much milk or dairy does he consume?
User :   on no bottles anymore and i took him of dairy to see if it makes a difernce no change
Doctor :   I see. Has he demonstrated any signs of environmental allergy?
Doctor :   To dust or pollen?
User :   is Azithromycin oral or intravenous no no signs of other allergies
Doctor :   If he has allergy, this can cause his body to generate more secretions and predispose to infection
Doctor :   Azithromycin is an oral medication
User :   is this bacteria one to be concerned about or not
Doctor :   One other wuestion I had.
Doctor :   Was he given vaccinations according to recommended schedule?
User :   yes he was he was about 1month late with his 12month old one has he had surgery
Doctor :   He should be fine then.
Doctor :   The vaccination is to protect against a more dangerous infection called meningitis
User :   yep heard all about that one..... so what now????
Doctor :   Otherwise H Influenza causes upper respiratory infections, ear and eye infections commonly
Doctor :   I would consider a trial of the alternative antibiotic
Doctor :   Allergy and immune system testing would be helpful also
User :   I am at my wits end with this yep and he has all of them conjunctivitis ongoing, ear infections ongoing, moist chest ongoing ect ect ect
Doctor :   It is poissible that this infection requires a more broad antibiotic which he may benefit from.
Doctor :   You may request that the pediatrician refer you to a specialist if he does not improve
User :   i am concerned abotu how much abs he has had should I be or not wont it just trash his immunity even more
Doctor :   If you are saying he has been relatively ill with cough etc since birth
Doctor :   has he gained good weight?
Doctor :   That is a healthy concern for sure.
Doctor :   Regarding antibiotics.
Doctor :   This is why I think he needs a comprehgensive assessment to see why he is not responding to them as we would expect
User :   yeah has slimmed since started walking though but apart from that he pretty happy and healthy
Doctor :   That is a good thing.
Doctor :   So I think an immune assessment, allergy testing, possible antibiotic trial from a new class of antibiotics is in order
Doctor :   Do you have animals at home?
User :   ok thanks any other suggestions to treat his symptoms today as he is pretty miserable i have given him panadol nurofen and so on........
User :   no animals
User :   but split system air conditioning heating
User :   is that a concern
Doctor :   Do you have filters in the air and heat unit?
Doctor :   have they been changed routinely
Doctor :   ?
User :   yep but the are clean and changed LOL
Doctor :   OK
Doctor :   you are doing all the gith things
Doctor :   right things
User :   ok thanks for your help i shall get on to that
Doctor :   You are very welcome
Doctor :   Have I answered your concerns to your satisfaction?
Doctor :   Any other wuestions today?
Doctor :   Are you still there?
User :   yep well kinda was hoping more antibiotics were not going to be included in it but if needed then i supose he will have to have them
Doctor :   Yes that is something we have to consiuder for him at this point
User :   ok cool thankyou dr
Doctor :   The fact that he is maintaining good weight and is otherwise OK is encouraging.
Doctor :   My pleasure
Doctor :   Any other questions?
User :   no not really just want a magical cure if u have one pass it this way LOL
Doctor :   I will work on it.
Doctor :   Have a good day and let us know if we can help you with anything in the future as well.
User :   ok bye now
Doctor :   bye
