User :   I was diagnosed with Bells palsy 5 days ago going on 6..... i have a very very stiff almost pulling feeling in the back of my neck up by the back of the head, any worried? Also i experience a lot of ear pain in the affected side along with dizziness, light headed, and also off balanced walk...I am on prednisone could that be a reason? I also have high blood pressure and was put on blood pressure pills. Along with anti viral meds that start with a A i forgot. please help thanks.
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   Merry Christmas
Doctor :   Let me read the query
Doctor :   From what I understand your doctor has thought that you have Bell's palsy because of Herpes infection and has put you on a Antiherpes medicine called Acyclovir
User :   right but he is not sure of the herpes infection i thought i had a stroke but did mri and ct scan and it came back all normal with no abnormalties... but i did just have the flu 3 weeks ago and i did not take any of my medicines to over come it i just kind of waited it out....
User :   23 years old male 300lbs 5'10" went into ER with blood pressure of 140/104
Doctor :   Ok the chances of stroke is ruled out with radiology tests
User :   ok
Doctor :   So rule out stroke from your thoughts
Doctor :   Now you are left with only two reason for your entire set of symptoms, one viral and other blood pressure
User :   Ok
User :   what about lyme disease
Doctor :   Do you have a history of hiking in the woods in the recent times?
User :   No not at all..
User :   never have in life
User :   and i dont think i got bit by a tick
Doctor :   Rule that out then
Doctor :   Now coming to Viral illness you get better very fast as you are very young
User :   i had mono in the spring of 2008 is that a factor?
Doctor :   No
Doctor :   Next coming to blood pressure you should take all measures to control it
User :   i understand ive had high bloood pressure for about 2 years and i was on exforge but i refused to take them being hard headed
Doctor :   That could be the biggest mistake you would have committed
User :   so do you think stress/blood pressure etc. and being over weight caused the BP
Doctor :   I suggest you continue on the medicines, with
User :   or played a roll
Doctor :   weight reduction as primary goal
Doctor :   If you reduce 10% if your current wt , your BP is controoled by 5%
User :   alright..
Doctor :   So set better goals and acheive them to have your BP under control
User :   So..Bell Palsy-- it could not be a sign of parkinsons disease or ALS could it?
Doctor :   No
Doctor :   I suggest a strict diet and regular exercise program alone with regular and timely intake of medicines
Doctor :   And you wonder if I say that unnecessary thoughts of this sort which are unrelated, can rise your blood pressure
Doctor :   as anxiety is a principal cause
User :   So the recovery it has been 6 days And this is what ive noticed: User :   1. my eye feels kind of alive and small small small small movement
User :   2. still a pretty bad smile
User :   3. my face twitches and spasms a little more on my right side, kind of feels good
User :   4. but i feel kind of shaky inside and jittery and tremors in hands, fingers, legs
User :   5. a sense of feeling off balance/dizzy when i get up out of the bed and walk..
User :   done.
User :   honest thoughts?
User :   here are a list of my meds: User :   Lisinopril (generic for Zestril) for blood pressrure, my RA Asprin, and some Acyclovir (Generic for Zovirax) 400mg tablets. Now, They have me on MethyPREDNISoione Tablets USP 4mg
Doctor :   OK
Doctor :   You are perfect list of medicines
Doctor :   and you continue to take them
Doctor :   Remember to protect your eye with goggles
Doctor :   Facial exercises
User :   so im asking with the #3, #4, #5 symptoms i listed above, everything is still okay?
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   It is Okay
User :   ok so face spasms and tremors are good right
Doctor :   Most patients with Bell's palsy recover without any cosmetically obvious deformities; however, approximately 5% are left with an unacceptably degree of sequelae
Doctor :   If you have incomplete paralysis you recover without any proble,
User :   okay cool
Doctor :   Since you are young and do not have diabetes the prognosis should be superb
Doctor :   Did you follow?
User :   my mom has diabities
User :   but my blood sugar level is 97
Doctor :   That is not a problem
User :   and time of ER it was 137
Doctor :   That is fine
Doctor :   You just stop worrying
Doctor :   as worrying delay the healing
User :   yeah i feel as if i am making myself think more and sick
Doctor :   In deed you are
User :   thank you
User :   oh 1 last question
User :   and im gone
Doctor :   yes
User :   what about the pain and kind of stiff neck by the shoulder blades
Doctor :   Viral cause
Doctor :   It produces pain anywhere in the body
Doctor :   It explains it
User :   okay so nothing to lose sleep over right
Doctor :   yes
User :   thanks and have a merry christmas doctor!
