User :   Blood or something red in stool. It is always a "bright red" color. There has been no water color change in the bowl, red or blood on underwear, or "loose" blood or red color. Prior to this I ate a large amount of pizza and in the week drank about ten beers (4-5 one Tuesday over 6 hours) (5 on Thursday over 6 hours) Have not drank alcohol since nor plan to. - Last Sunday I noticed something red around my stool. When I wiped, the paper didn't look like blood (like when you cut yourself) but rather a really light brown (in a paranoid state, "it could be blood?") Monday-Wednesday seemed fine, Thursday, the stool looked regular but if looked at close enough, red can be seen in some part(s) of the stool.
The paper when wiped generally looks normal in color. Went to doctor on Friday, she did the finger poke and said nothing was wrong there, gave me occult blood test to do at home over 3 days. Have completed this.
On Saturday morning, the stool was normal color but with some red again, and this time and the only time there was something which appeared as mucus with red. This has not happened again. Today the stool looked normal again in color but with some red. The last movement looked pretty normal (didn't see any red or if so, a very minute amount and it had to be stared at as close as one can while in the bowl) - Wondering if I have something to worry about. Thank you.
Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hello
Doctor :   Let me read it
User :   Alright.
Doctor :   May I know your age & gender?
User :   I am 25 and Male.
Doctor :   The only possibility is a little bleed higher in your intestines
Doctor :   as this blood passes by through the rest of the intestines it changes its colour to what you have described
Doctor :   Brown
User :   The stool is brown but mixed in with it there is some red, which I assume is blood. Is this a common occurance? What can I do to resolve the issue?
Doctor :   ten beers (4-5 one Tuesday over 6 hours) (5 on Thursday over 6 hours) ! that can cause some serious erosion
Doctor :   of the guts
Doctor :   It is probably healing now
User :   That is what I thought, because before that there was no problem. I just didn't know if there was something needed to be done besides stopping the beer and trying to eat non-greasy foods.
Doctor :   Now you have to help heal
User :   What is the best way to do that?
Doctor :   Abstain from drinking alcohol for atleast a few weeks, if not months
Doctor :   Have a healthy diet
Doctor :   include milk & yoghurt in it
User :   I take a multivitamin each day, that wouldn't worsen anything would it?
Doctor :   No
Doctor :   Include a lot of fibre in your diet
Doctor :   that is fresh fruits & vegetables
Doctor :   Drink plenty of water, Start a good exercise schedule
Doctor :   Avoid not only greasy food, but also spicy food
Doctor :   Plenty of water is the key
Doctor :   Did you follow what I said?
User :   Yes. I drink alot of Mineral water, same difference?
Doctor :   Good
Doctor :   Continue the same
Doctor :   If your problem persists beyond a couple more days, then you will need a more serious evaluation
Doctor :   but this is seldom going to happen
User :   Okay. Now, when I take the occult blood test back to the clinic tomorrow, I assume it is going to test positive, should I just do what they say after if this is the case? I did tell her about the alcohol and she said to stop that, which is not a problem but also said if the test is positive I will need to do additional tests or get a colonoscopy. But, if it's irritation from alcohol will she figure that out?
Doctor :   yes she is right & on a protocol
Doctor :   Its hard to conclusively say that a particular bleed is due to alcohol only
Doctor :   anyway it wont be of concern
User :   Okay, well I will take the test back tomorrow and go from there. I see the time is running out. Thank you for your advice and have a nice week.
