User :   Hello Sir, Need your suggestion. Can we talk for a while?
Doctor :   Hi
User :   hello thanks for responding
User :   I am chatting on behalf of my wife
User :   she is 3-4 months pregnant
Doctor :   ok
User :   and was advised for a couple of tests by a gyne
User :   when we took the report to her, she said that we need to again get the test done for few things as she suspects some thing wrong
User :   we are scared and need to know what is that
Doctor :   can u give me the details of the tests done so far
User :   for example her VDRL test says Reactive. we dont know what is this?
User :   could you please explain the above
Doctor :   VDRL is a non specific test, and it can be reactive due to other conditions as well
User :   but hour doc sounded quite negative
User :   and we got scared
User :   is it any thing to do with the baby?
Doctor :   basically it is a test to test for syphilis, but it is may be positive in conditions of autoimmune diseases as well
User :   could you please explain the above statement in layman language
Doctor :   syphilis is a infection
Doctor :   and to detect it, VDRL is done as a test
User :   being reactive does it affect baby?
User :   or pregnancy
Doctor :   but it is falsely positive (reactive) in other conditions like SLE, auto immune conditions etc
Doctor :   it depends on what exact condition the mom has
User :   sir all i am trying to understand is that is it harmful for the baby in any case?
User :   ok
User :   also other than the above in her urine test, the pus cells vary between 8-10
Doctor :   if your wife has syphilis, and the test is correct, then the baby can be having syphilis can can cause congenital issues at birth
Doctor :   if the test is falsely positive, then other tests have to be done to rule out conditions like SLE ,
Doctor :   the tests can be done like - ANA, DSDNA test, etc
Doctor :   pus cells indicate a urinary infection
Doctor :   please mention your wifes age ?
User :   26
Doctor :   and does she have any history of miscarriages, etc ?
Doctor :   abortions, etc ?
User :   no such history
User :   nor abortions
Doctor :   is this her first pregnancy ?
User :   yes this is the first pregnancy
Doctor :   Does she have any other medical conditions ?
User :   no she is quite healthy
User :   has a healthy lifestyle
User :   no ailments
Doctor :   In that case, the test could be falsely positive,
Doctor :   and your doc is right in asking for repeating the tests
User :   do you mean to say that report could be wrong and thus require another test?
User :   ok thank you
User :   last point
Doctor :   ok
User :   her toxoplasma is 33.9 EU/ml
User :   what is this as this is also highlighted and advised for a re check
Doctor :   it could be a similar case as the first test
Doctor :   and a recheck will not matter
User :   a false positive?
Doctor :   DO U have any pets at home , like cats ?
User :   no we dont have pets
Doctor :   In that case, it could be false positive and u need not worry
Doctor :   Have u done other tests as well ?
User :   most thanks once again
User :   If VDRL again comes positive then would that be a case of concern?
User :   as in if it comes reactive again?
Doctor :   i dont think so,
Doctor :   if its positve, then do a test for confirmation ,
Doctor :   that will be suggested by your doctor.
Doctor :   But in case of not having any issues, such tests need not be done, as they might just increase ur worrry without any basis
Doctor :   all such tests depend on antibodies
Doctor :   and during pregnancies, such antibodies can be falsely elevated due to immmune hyperactivity
User :   ok, a sigh of relief
Doctor :   but all such cases have to be taken case by case
User :   so will have it checked tomorrow
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   Yes
User :   oh which place if i may ask?
User :   thanks doc...with this i sign off from this chat. hoep there is nothing much to worry
Doctor :   i hope i have solved your worries
User :   yes ...
Doctor :   take care and please leave ur feedback as u log out
User :   sure
Doctor :   good night and take care
User :   goodnight
