User :   my little boy has had a cough for about a month now. about 2 weeks ago he started vomiting fever not eating and very sleepy doctor ran a cbc, mono and strep test and they were all normal. Chest xray looked ok to. He did not eat anything at all for 5 days the week before last but was still drinking. He still has a cough and is eating a little not near what he usually does though and is still sleepy a lot he has been falling asleep in the afternoons. Why is he so tired and not very hungry. Appetite does seem to be improving just worried about him being so tires. Do viruses do this to you is this normal?? Just worried He is a 6 year old male.
Doctor :   hello
User :   hi
User :   what is your specialty
Doctor :   i am general physician here
User :   ok do you see my first post
Doctor :   give me a min please i am going thru it
User :   ok
Doctor :   so all the said tests were normal ?
Doctor :   what are his present symptoms ?
User :   yes they were. his symptoms now are a light but productive cough still not really hungry and get tired and wore out very easily. He is napping now which he has not done in years.
Doctor :   and what all medications he is on ?
User :   none now
Doctor :   well he could be having a viral infection
Doctor :   as the symptoms are quite typical
Doctor :   and yes there is no antibiotic course for it either
Doctor :   and it will take its time to wear out itself
Doctor :   for the cough
Doctor :   i will suggest you that you Mix 3 tablespoon of lemon juice, 1 cup honey, and 1/4 cup warm water and give two teaspoons daily
Doctor :   that will help a lot
User :   ok so this sounds of typical virus behavior?? to last almost 4 weeks?
Doctor :   the duration depends on the immunity of the child and in it was bacterial in nature it would have shown in the tests
Doctor :   also i can recommend you to get a CSF analysis done
Doctor :   that will help to pinpoint the cause
User :   so in the cbc something would have been abnomral?? what is a csf??
Doctor :   cerebral spinal fluid
User :   what will that test for??? sounds painful
Doctor :   to rule out meningitis
Doctor :   but like your said your child is improving
User :   oh ok i see but all in all does it sound like a virus?? If he had leukemia or something would that have shown up in the blood work?
Doctor :   so you just wait for 3- 4 days
Doctor :   yes true
User :   so have you seen a virus last this long in a child
Doctor :   yes it can
Doctor :   like i said it depends on the immunity
