Doctor :   Hi
User :   I fell off of a horse, back on june 5, 09. I laid there for 30 mins, with my left femur broke in half, my question is this, while I was laying there was laying there i was on my right side, legs partually bent, now while i was laying there could the blood and oxygen have been cut off from my foot and if so, what does that mean, is it curable, right now, i currently experience the following, severly cold foot, tingling, cramps, pins and needles, and severe pain. and my foot turns a blueish color, could this be from lack of oxygen and blood, are there tests to see, are there any treatment that can be done, willl i lose my foot? I had to have a rod and 2 pins put in my leg, I have also been diognosed with mucsle apathy and neurapthy, (sorry about the spelling). and osteroprosis, thank you
Doctor :   How can I help you?

Doctor :   Let me read the query.
Doctor :   May I know your age?
User :   37
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Let me brief you.
Doctor :   A fracture femur or any bone for that matter doesn't cause vascular damage unless the fractured limb traumatizes the main arteries.
Doctor :   Such vascular injuries(if any) show up immediately or in a few days following fracture.
Doctor :   since your symptoms are almost an year and half old, it's unlikely that the fracture that you sustained may be the cause.
User :   I have had issues since i broke my leg, i am just tired of being in pain and trying to maybe come up with some reasons or a way to help me
User :   I tryed to tell the dr while i was still in the hospital, and even after, but he would not listen to me, I now have new drs, and just trying to figure this out
Doctor :   May I know, if you also have back pain?
User :   some in the lower back, but not severe
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Do you find that your symptoms are aggravated due to factors such as exposure to cold weather?
User :   yes, the cold causes aweful pain, and the warmer i can keep my foot the better, I normally sit under a heating blanket with a heating pad on my foot
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Do you experience similar symptoms in your upper limbs?
User :   I have pain in my hip, and knee, but not the coldness, it started only in my foot, but now it has moved up my shin about half up up my leg
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Do you smoke?
User :   yes
User :   since i was 18, about 1 to 1 1/2 packs a day
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Do you have any other medical illness such as diabetes, high cholesterol levels, heart disorders?
User :   no, i had to have a hystroctomy due to cervical cancer and emdromretosis, and my left lung has collasped (spontanous phumethrox) dr said it was due to stress
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Let me brief you.
Doctor :   Symptoms as described by you, yes, they occur due to vasoconstriction of the arteries, reduced blood supply and reduced oxygenation to the limbs, however
Doctor :   the femur fracture isn't the cause.
Doctor :   Let me explain.
Doctor :   Factors such as smoking, high cholesterol, vasculitis/autoimmune disorders and in individuals who suffer from Reynaurd's phenomena can be the cause.
Doctor :   These symptoms can be contributed by minor spine injuries over the back/hips.
Doctor :   Since, I cannot physically examine you, I am unable to predict the seriousness of the problem/
Doctor :   However, presence of pain every day is not a good sign.
Doctor :   You will need evaluation,
User :   if this is something i have, what is the out come, will i lose my foot? I understand you can examine me, but is that a possibility
Doctor :   evaluation will include physical examination, doppler study of blood vessels, blood works.
Doctor :   If my guess is right( I mean confirmed by physical examination and the doppler studies), it's a serious concern.
User :   what would blood work tell me, I do know that most of my levels are low
Doctor :   Let me suggest you the measures that you need to follow
Doctor :   1. It's absolutely necessary that you quit smoking now.
User :   i am trying to quit smoking
Doctor :   If you continue smoking, then there are high chance that you will end up with loosing your limb.
Doctor :   2. Consult a vascular surgeon to get the evaluation done
User :   that is scary, what an eye opener
Doctor :   the doctor will guide you through the blood work up as well as get the doppler scan's done
User :   ok I will have that done tomorrow
Doctor :   The severity of the problem will be based on the reports of the scan.
Doctor :   3. Treatment in the form of antiplatelet medications, anticoagulant medication or surgical treatment may be necessary if needed.
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
User :   yes, i will, thank you so much, i have made notes and will be calling for an appt tomorrow
Doctor :   I would suggest you to see a doctor for the test, and no smoking.
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   I had april as my dead line for quitting, I will move that up, and no thank you so much for the suggestions,
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me..
User :   thank you for your time, you have been very helpful
Doctor :   Wish you good health and Happy New year in advance!!
Doctor :   Bye for now.
User :   thank you same to you
User :   bye bye
