User :   I am constantly tired thought the day, even if I sleep 12 hours at night. I usually fall a sleep quickly, have problems waking up, am fine for a few hours after I am up, than get very tired as the day goes on. If I take a nap it helps me be less tired, but only for a few hours before I get tired again. I looked this up and it sounds like Narcolepsy. Is this true and what can I do about it so I am not tried all the time and can get more done with out just trying to stay awake.
Doctor :   Let me read the query
Doctor :   Gimme a couple of min
Doctor :   What is your age?
Doctor :   Occupation?
Doctor :   Are you married?
User :   22, I am a student and run a business, and I am not married
Doctor :   Do you snore, I mean does some one complain about it?
Doctor :   What is your height and weight?
User :   no, I do not snore
User :   5'11" 180 lb
Doctor :   Since how long you have this problem?
Doctor :   How is your appetite?
Doctor :   Do you practise routine or is it haphazard
Doctor :   Please answer my questions
User :   I do not know exactly how long, it seems to be getting slowly more worse. I would say at least 2 year. I mostly cook my own food or eat out at restaurants, I eat different things but nothing unhealthy.
User :   I do not practice a day to day routine because each day is different for me.
Doctor :   Is exercise a part of your routine, at least 30 minutes a day?
User :   Not running but I probably walk at least 5 miles (or more) a day on weekdays to and from classes
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Any family history
User :   my father sometime has problems falling a sleep but other than that none. I have never had any problems falling a sleep, i fell a sleep on a airplane with bad turbulence with no problems when everyone else around me was sick from it.
Doctor :   How about appetite?
Doctor :   or recent weight gain?
User :   My appetite is normal, I probably eat more than I would like but I eat 3 meals a day and never finish my plate and only have 1 snack throughout the day. No recent weight gain, I stay around 180 lb.
Doctor :   Do you think you have muscle soreness also?
Doctor :   Does it hurt when you press over certain muscles when you are tired
User :   no, no soreness
Doctor :   Did you recover from any illness?
Doctor :   Are you enjoying your job?
User :   what do you mean by recover from any illness? I do enjoy my job, not some of my classes that much but my job I really enjoy... just wish I could get some more done on it during the day.
Doctor :   Viral or bacterial infection
User :   yes, I recover from them.
Doctor :   Do you use any medications?
User :   no
Doctor :   Do you smoke / alcohol or illicit drugs?
User :   I do not smoke, I drink every now and then but no more than one drink a day and no more than 3 a week, and no illicit drugs
Doctor :   Ok, excessive tiredness has many different reasons, I tried to rule out the major ones with the history. However it needs few tests to check if you have medical problems
Doctor :   These medical problems include, Anemia, Thyroid disorder
Doctor :   Hence Hb%, Thyroid profile has to be done
Doctor :   Narcolepsy can be a reason, to confirm it a test called Polysomnography ( sleep studies) are done
Doctor :   However these are the measures I suggest in common
User :   I had a fully thyroid panel done about 3 years ago with no problems, could something come up that fast with it?
Doctor :   Why was that done?
Doctor :   Yes you need a repetition now
User :   a full thyroid hormone test though a blood test was preformed about 3 years ago
Doctor :   Ok, any reason why was that ordered
Doctor :   was my question
User :   It was a hart condition I had, they never figured out the problem but they thought it was a virus, it cause tachycardia, high blood pressure, and a very weak immune system for about 2.5 months
Doctor :   What was the heart condition?
Doctor :   Heart conditions ( chronic) can cause tiredness
Doctor :   Now I would ask to include 2D ECHO cardio
Doctor :   in your list of tests
User :   that was it, just tachycardia and high blood pressure. It only lasted 2.5 months about 3 years ago. They did a full blood test, a full thyroid test, urinalysis, x-ray, and a ECHO with contrast. Everything came back perfect so the cause of the problem was never actually determined. It was only thought to be a virus.
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   My advice for you apart from those were the above tests
Doctor :   Aim for a regular sleep routine - this means going to bed and getting up at the same time each day
Doctor :   Make sure your bedroom is neither too hot nor too cold
Doctor :   I need more time to answer your questions
