User :   Hi. I would like to know suggestions about 21 month old with rectal prolapse.

User :   one of the pediatric surgeon prescribed stool softner which has not helped. i am not sure if stool softner is the solution for this.

User :   yes. and it is evident from the rectal area also.

Doctor :   Usually with the conservative managements, they can get reversed.
Doctor :   The surgical treatment is opted only if the conservative management does not help.
User :   what is conservative management?
Doctor :   The conservative management includes use of stool softeners, diet in the form of fibres, avoiding strains such as cough, severe vomiting.
Doctor :   And also monitoring the prolapsed rectum.
Doctor :   If the prolapse is worsening inspite of these measures, the treatment plan can be modified.
