User :   Yesterday I had an exam at the Rheumatologists, with good results. But, he and a student heard a whooshing sound in my abdomen and ordered an ultrasound right away. They explained that it could be an aortic aneurysm. I'm a 52 year old female who doesn't smoke and doesn't have high blood pressure. My cholesterol level is borderline (194) with the HdL and LdL being steady, but my triglycerides are somewhat elevated. But just under borderline. This has me scared to death. I have an appointment in 3 days for the ultrasound. I was wondering if there could be another reason for the whooshing sound other than a blockage or aneurysm?
Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hello
Doctor :   give me a min please , let me go thru your query
Doctor :   may i know your weight and height please ?
User :   5'1" 150lbs
Doctor :   and you have any other symptoms ?
User :   no
Doctor :   and do you have the ultrasound reports ?
User :   I have had a whooshing sound in my right ear, for 2 years, but I have had a CT scan and an ultrasound on my carotid artery and they were fine. No I haven't had the ultrasound yet. It is scheduled for Tuesday.
Doctor :   the MOST common cause of a aortic aneurysm is LONG STANDING hypertension
Doctor :   so in your case it gets not a probable cause
Doctor :   abdomen sounds can be many b
Doctor :   sometimes it can be just normal bowel movements
User :   So, without other symptoms and never having high blood pressure, it could possibly be something benign?
Doctor :   yes very much
Doctor :   Abdominal sounds (bowel sounds) are made by the movement of the intestines as they push food through. Since the intestines are hollow, bowel sounds can echo through the abdomen much like the sounds heard from water pipes.
Doctor :   do you have any nausea ?
Doctor :   any vomiting ?
Doctor :   gas ?
User :   No nausea, vomiting or gas
Doctor :   well then dont worry
Doctor :   just go for the ultrasound and yes you do need to keep your triglycerides under control ?
User :   Oh my God, you have eased my mind! Thank you and yes I will go for the ultrasound and hope that it was bowel sounds!
Doctor :   your most welcome
Doctor :   is there anything else i can help you with ?
User :   Just a little confused, if it were other sounds, would the sound be like a heartbeat?
Doctor :   are you taking any medications ?
User :   no
Doctor :   was a pulsating sound heard ?
User :   they just said it was a whooshing sound
Doctor :   well thats why we have ultrasound AS A WOOSHING SOUND is not exactly a medical term
Doctor :   so dont worry
User :   Ha ha, yes and thank you.
Doctor :   your welcome
Doctor :   your feedback will be appreciated
Doctor :   take care
User :   thanks, hoping they give me as good a report as you did on Tuesday
Doctor :   be positive
Doctor :   thats the key
Doctor :   good bye
User :   good bye
