User :   I have been having problems with bowel movements recently. I returned from a vacation in and, after a few days (and having taken two hemorrhoid suppositories), I was having trouble producing a bowel movement. I stayed at a resort which filtered the water and the food that I ate at the resort was fine (I was able to produce bowel movements in Mexico). For two weeks now, I have been having trouble producing a solid bowel movement, and the ones I do produce are only after I drink coffee- and what comes out is somewhat narrow and is not hard (or at least it doesn't seem it). Also, I feel as if I need to push very hard to produce anything (what is produced is normal brown/light brown color). There is no blood on my stool/on the toilet paper (although a few months ago I did find blood on the toilet paper, which I figured was hemorrhoids- no new blood anymore). About a month or two ago I went to the doctor's office about a heavy feeling I had on my right side, and he did a series of blood tests (CBC, PLT, DIFF, Amylase, Lipase, Venipuncture, HPylori, urine test, maybe more) and also did an ultrasound- all of which came back normal. I also sometimes (rarely) get sharp pains directly in/above my rectum (I'm not sure if it relates). My age is 22 and I am unsure of what is going on with my bowel movements. I called my doctor again and he told me to take Colace (which hasn't really produced anything yet). What could be wrong/going on?
Doctor :   hello
Doctor :   i am Dr Oberoi here
Doctor :   let me read your query
User :   hello- sorry for the massive "summary," just a little worried
User :   thank you
Doctor :   give me a min please
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   so you have had no relief with colace?
Doctor :   how long have you taking it
User :   not really, I have been taking it for about 2 full days
Doctor :   i see
Doctor :   well can you tell me more about your diet please
User :   it consists of protein (meat) usually and some sort of carb (potatoes, pasta, etc.)
User :   I recently started working at an Italian restaurant and am eating a lot of pastas though
Doctor :   your problem lies in your diet, and as a matter of fact few dietary changes can help you
Doctor :   you need to add fiber in your diet
User :   Alright. Now, this might be a bit extreme, but I just want to make sure it's just my paranoia acting up- would this sound at all like colon cancer or anything of the sort?
User :   I have sort of a paranoia/fear of it
Doctor :   have you lost weight ?
User :   no not really
User :   but i do have sweaty feet/night sweats (which have been around for a while)
User :   and i tend to be a very nervous person
Doctor :   well you don't have any signs or symptoms suggesting a cancerous condition
Doctor :   so dont worry just eat lots of green leafy vegetables
User :   great- and out of curiosity, i mentioned before that I had an ultrasound done- would it have detected anything if there was something?
User :   because i was a little unsure of what the ultrasound was actually used for
Doctor :   the signs of colon cancer are very different
Doctor :   you dont worry about it
Doctor :   drink lots of water
User :   great, thank you. would this fiber insufficiency also cause me to be bloated in my sides a swell?
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   as lack of fiber can cause gas in the stomach
User :   ok thanks
User :   and i assume because i do not exercise that too is a factor?
Doctor :   no problem
Doctor :   you are right you have the knowledge please implement it
