User :   hello,
i am having severe hairfall after delivery. i hav tried many medicines like essvit, enfinity but no use. i am taking thyroid medicine which is now normal. please tell me what to do?
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   May I know your age?
User :   23
Doctor :   Since how long are you having the current symptoms?
User :   from the past 3 months which is getting worst now.
Doctor :   Approximately how many hair are you losing per day?
User :   my hair are getting thinner and thinner day by day and i am losing hundrerds of stands of hair each day.
User :   around 50 but during head wash may be 100
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Have you had the hair fall issues before pregnancy too?
User :   ya but now it is getting too much. after my first delivery also i was having but this time i find more.
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Let me explain you.
Doctor :   Hair fall occur due to multiple reasons - diet, stress, hormones, infections and so on.
User :   is this hairfall related to thyroid.
Doctor :   Theoretically, any hair fall less than 100 is not abnormal.
Doctor :   But yes, hair falls are affected by thyroid problems.
Doctor :   Apart from thyroid, other factors such as progesterone hormone also affects.
Doctor :   blood levels of this hormone is high during time of pregnancy and lactation,
Doctor :   That probably may be the reason for your severe hair fall.
Doctor :   Are you following?
User :   then please guide me what should i do. which category of doctor can help, dermatologist or endocrinologist.
Doctor :   Let me suggest the measures.
Doctor :   1. Since your thyroid hormones are under normal limit, continue the measures/medications and be regular with it.
User :   may i know your name sir.
Doctor :   2. Lack of proper nutrition will badly affect hairs, especially during pregnancy and lactation,
Doctor :   hence good and adequate diet rich in vitamins is essential.
Doctor :   I am Dr AAAAAAA
User :   i am worried. i hope i wont go bald. and please guide me regarding nutrition.
Doctor :   Nutrition should include good amount of vegetables and fruits. you can continue with the vitamin supplements that you are on(essvit)
Doctor :   3. High stress and worries can increase hair fall.
Doctor :   hence control your stress adequately and stop worrying.
Doctor :   Progesterone hormones are
Doctor :   expected to normalize in 4-6 months time, based on the period of lactation,
Doctor :   hair fall is hence expected to reduce.
Doctor :   Hence you need not worry much.
User :   i wont go bald .
Doctor :   4. Persisting dandruff problems can also contribute to the hair fall.
User :   no i dont have dandruff.
Doctor :   hence good and regular antidandruff shampoo can be used.
User :   should i consult a skin specialist.
Doctor :   If there are no dandruff issues then that should not worry.
Doctor :   You can consult a trichologist/dermatologist, if your hair loss continues or if you are losing more than 100 hairs per day after 4-6 months following delivery.
User :   ok can you please tell me if thyroid gets normal or i will have to take medicine in my whole life.
Doctor :   5. Avoid wiping your hair when wet with a towel.
Doctor :   Instead air dry the hair.
User :   six months have my son is 7 month old.
Doctor :   There have been fair number of individuals suffering from thyroid problems, in whom thyroid hormones have normalised,
Doctor :   the chances of that happening are more only if you are following a regular medications strictly.
Doctor :   If you are not lactating, and if your hair symptoms are persisting,
User :   my tsh was 0.338 ( 0.27-4.2) and i was taking 75mcg thyronorm.
Doctor :   reducing stress and good nutrition is expected to help.
User :   but now last week i had a check and my tsh was 4.1. so my medicine was rwduced to 25mcg.
Doctor :   However, if you persist to have hair fall, and if your hair line is receding, then you can consult a dermatologist/trichologist for evaluation.
User :   i am still breastfeeding.
Doctor :   Have you got your periods back?
Doctor :   * Are you getting your periods?
User :   yes. but this month my date has passed and i have skipped.
Doctor :   If your medications are being reduced and the TSH levels are stable, there are chances that medications will be slowly tapered and stopped.
Doctor :   But frequent monitoring of TSH will be necessary.
Doctor :   Irregular menstruation is a sign that the progesterone hormone is not stabilized.
Doctor :   This can contribute to the hair fall.
User :   is it normal is periods skip in breastfeeding
Doctor :   hence you need not worry much(excessive worrying can known to aggravate hair fall).
User :   my gynae said skipping of periods is normal in breastfeeding.
Doctor :   yes, breast feeding can cause irregularities of periods.
User :   should i give bottle feeding to my son.
Doctor :   The same hormones is responsible for hair fall and irregular menstruation.
Doctor :   Hence my present suggestions are
User :   then what shouls i do for this progesterone harmone. how will it be stable.
Doctor :   2. Good nutrition as explained earlier
Doctor :   1. Stop worrying much as your hair fall is also expected to reduce, just as your periods are expected to become normal.
Doctor :   3. Be regular with thyroid medications
Doctor :   4. Avoid in activities that can increase hair fall such as wiping your hair when wet using towel.
User :   how to stable this hormone.any supplement required
Doctor :   Progesterone and other hormones responsible for hair fall and irregular menstruation normalize on its own, as you receede breast feeding.
Doctor :   No, you don't need any hormonal drug.
Doctor :   Follow the measures suggested.
User :   should i stop brestfeed and introduce bottle.
Doctor :   If you don't find that these commonly followed measures not helping you, then you can consult a dermatologist.
Doctor :   If you child is 7months old, I think its high time that you slowly start receeding from breast milk and start weaning with solid food and other milk products.
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
User :   are you doctor Arun XXXXXXXX or P V S AAAAAAA
Doctor :   I am a general physician.
User :   ok sir.i appreciate your time given to me.
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   thank you very much for your time.
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me. Bye for now.
Doctor :   Have a nice day
User :   same to you.
