User:hi doctor
Doctor:How can I help you?
User:i have a doubt. my wife is pregnant with 7.4 weeks
User:yesterday she was scaned and in reports there is a large fibroid 10.3*9.9*8.3cms fundal fibroid adjacent to the gastational sac on the left side
User:and in addition a second fibroid 4.6*4.4cms is identified antero-laterally on the right side
User:does it affect my wife and baby
Doctor:Fibroid can affect growth and progress of pregnancy and vice versa can also occur.
Doctor:However there have been many instances where fibroid and pregnancy were found coexisting on antenatal scans.
Doctor:Since we cannot treat fibroid during pregnancy, the treatment here would be just monitoring.
Doctor:Your wife will need regular antenatal scans as well as frequent follow-ups with her gynecologist.
Doctor:And as I mentioned, there are high chances that your wife will go on to deliver a normal child.
Doctor:Have you followed?
User:an anteverted bulky utereus with a single live intra-uterine gestation. the crl of the total companant is 1.2 cms which coresponds to 7.4weeks. there is a well defined yolk sac measuring 4.9mm. the fetal heart rate is 160 beats/ min, regular. there is no peric-chorionic haemacoma. the cervix measures 4.4cms in length. the XXXXXXX os is closed
User:does the fibroid is in utereus?
Doctor:The details you submitted now does not mention about fibroids in it.
Doctor:Usually fibroids are located in the uterine musculature.
Doctor:Occasionally it can also be present in the uterine cavity (submucosal)
Doctor:and rarely outside the uterus (subserosal).
Doctor:During pregnancy it is difficult to differentiate where exactly the fibroid is.
Doctor:however sometimes with good experience and luck a radiologist can be able to locate the exact location of fibroid (myometrial / submucosal / subserosal).
Doctor:Have you followed what I suggested?
User:ok. is there any chance of reducing the fibroids with pills
Doctor:Medical pills are not the regular treatment of fibroid. But there are pills which are known to reduce its size.
Doctor:But again,
Doctor:we cannot give them at this stage.
Doctor:Pregnancy can be grossly affected with the use of such pills.
Doctor:We need to wait and observe regularly.
Doctor:Treatment for fibroid would be suggested if the fibroid gets complicated due to pregnancy.
User:is the baby in good condition?
Doctor:At present, the scan indicates every thing is normal.
User:please suggest the diet
Doctor:But your wife needs to be very caution for the first 3 months of pregnancy.
Doctor:There is no special diet for pregnancy and fibroid together.
Doctor:She can take all the diet, with restriction on some particular food.
User:it means she needs to take full rest
Doctor:Those food that needs to be consumed in less amount are papaya, unripe mangoes, sea food, uncooked non vegetarian food / egg, etc.
Doctor:Yes, it would be better if your wife is in proper rest.
Doctor:Avoid any strenuous physical activities such as running, jumping, skipping, bending, lifting heavy objects and so on.
User:she is having some pain in her back
Doctor:The pain is common.
User:does this fibroid effect the growth of baby?
Doctor:It can occur in most pregnant women.
Doctor:You need to be worried if the pain is very severe and associated with severe bleeding.
Doctor:As I mentioned earlier, fibroid can affect pregnancy and vice-versa, the growth of baby are affected rarely.
User:please suggest to go for treatment for fibroid or to continue
Doctor:60-80% women go on to deliver normal baby even with large fibroids.
Doctor: I think you haven't followed what I suggested earlier.
Doctor:Fibroid is one of the common issues in young reproductory age group women.
Doctor:In many cases, especially when patients are asymptomatic
Doctor:fibroid is detected during pregnancy as in the case of your wife.
Doctor:As I mentioned, though fibroid can affect the course of pregnancy, we do not recommend any treatment for it
Doctor:as the treatment has high chances of complicating pregnancy.
Doctor:Hence we only suggest patients to monitor the symptoms and report back if there is a problem.
Doctor:The doctor with repeated scans will monitor the progress of pregnancy
Doctor:and in the rarest event if growth is affected by fibroid, they will suggest what can be done then.
Doctor:My suggestions for proper rest is because your wife has fibroid,
Doctor:she belongs to the category of high risk pregnancy where early miscarriage can happen.
Doctor:With adequate rest, we can reduce this chances.
Doctor:So the treatment for now is to monitor closely,
Doctor:avoid any strenuous physical activity.
Doctor:Treatment for fibroid - either surgical or medical can be done after delivery of the child.
Doctor:Hope it is clear to you now.
User:thanks doctor. thank you very much.
Doctor:Do you have any other query?
User:if any i will chat. thnks
Doctor:Thanks for consulting me.
Doctor:Bye for now.
