User:Hello Doctor
Doctor:How can I help you?
User:My wife is having cold and throat pain since yesterday evening..
User:actually she is in her 8th month of pregnancy
User:so just worried about the medicines... please advise
Doctor:Is she on any medicine?
User:regular pregnancy tablets... like iron, calcium and DHA tablets recommended by doctor
Doctor:Is she having fever?
User:I dont thnik so... but she is litlle bit warm since morning
Doctor:Let me brief you.
Doctor:Based on your description
Doctor:it looks like your wife is suffering with upper respiratory infection
Doctor:which is probably viral in nature.
Doctor:The following measures will give her symptom relief.
Doctor:1. You can apply some saline nasal spray into each nostril 2 - 3 drops thrice a day.
User:can we use Otrivin ?
Doctor:Nasal decongestants might give her more benefits than saline nasal drops.
Doctor:You may use it
Doctor:but use it in limited amounts.
Doctor:Probably once a day.
Doctor:2. You can take Tab. Calpol 500mg twice or thrice a day depending on amount of fever.
Doctor:3. Sorethroat can be taken care by doing warm water gargling.
Doctor:You can add Tab.Disprin in the warm water and gargle with it.
Doctor:Disprin warm water gargles are more effective than plain water gargles.
Doctor:Since otrivin and disprin gargles act locally
Doctor:they do not cause effects on pregnancy.
Doctor:4. Watch and monitor her progress.
Doctor:If she has high grade fever, breathing difficulties you need to visit your doctor for more specific treatment
Doctor:Have you followed?
Doctor:Do you have any other query?
User:not till now
User:but definetly will follow if things doesn't improve
User:any tablets for cold specifically ?
Doctor:Yes, there are few drugs to take care of cold, but its effects on pregnancy are doubtful.
Doctor:We reserve such medications only if symptoms are severe
User:hmmm.. makes sense
Doctor:I think the nasal decongestants should take care of nasal congestants / running nose for the time being.
Doctor:Lets watch and see how things go on.
Doctor:If symptoms worsen, your doctor can prescribe the drugs to her.
Doctor:Hope it is clear.
Doctor:Do you have any other query?
User:yes.. it was helpful doctor..
User:nothing else as of now... Thanks
Doctor:You are welcome.
Doctor:Thanks for consulting me.
Doctor:Bye for now.
