Pounding headache with stomach problems. Reason ? - Online Doctor Chats
Hi , I have a problem that I wanted to chat about..
Please proceed with your query
I seem to have a headache problem, which is mostly related to my stomach
I know it's because of my stomach because it seems to go away if I relieve myself in the bathroom
the headache is of the pounding type, seems to come and go with the heartbeat
Also, I've noticed I get a bad headache if I have prawns
the headache manifests overnight
It is better to get a thyroid profile done
May I know your age and gender?
I do not see a relation between the headache and stomach
They seem to be 2 separate problems
Well, actually..no. They seem to be related.
Almost every time my stomach is upset, I get a headache...
I get a headache if I don't visit the bathroom a little after I wake up (or if I sleep late in the morning)
Also, I need to visit the bathroom at least twice a day...otherwise, in most cases, I get a headache by evening..
which gets ok if I do go to the bathroom
You mean to say you pass stools twice in a day?
Sorry if I was not clear
I apologize for not understanding
It seems to be a very minor problem
One suggestion I wish to give you
sure, go ahead
Try and spend time in the bathroom and evacuate your bowel as much as you can
Never withhold an urge to pass motions
Hmm, I'll try... I usually spend quite some time at every 'sitting'... atleast 15 minutes..
goes up to 30 minutes too
and i only get up if i feel I'm done...
That is good
but then i feel the urge to go again in probably 4-5 hours
and if I don't go....the headache starts in about 1-2 hours
Since how long are you facing this problem?
quite some time actually...atleast 10 years...
it's never been a major issue though, so i never consulted
Yes, that is right, it is not a major issue now
But we should not neglect it too
But I am worried because the headache sometimes happens before I wake up... (around 5)
till the system gets cleared (i think(
hardly ever loose/diarrhea
and I think that is when the headache happens
One condition matches to your symptoms
Inflammatory bowel disease
But it may still be in the initial stage
Are you having a stressful lifestyle?
I'm a software developer
not a stressful work profile
could stress be a reason?
Yes, for sure
Is there any other symptom associated with the headache?
just a feeling of constipation... nothing else
i can go about with my normal work...
but it's a pulsating pain in the head...which increases if I shake my head around
if the pain is too much, i do feel like vomiting...
no visual disturbance
most of the times, i don't feel like vomiting
This seems like cluster headche
But I cannot associate both your symptoms into one except for IBD
Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Let me tell you few things
As long as your headache is getting relieved with passage of stools, you should not worry
And the headache does not seem major, except for its pulsatile nature
It's not major
just doesn't happen to anyone else I know, which is worrysome
So, here are my suggestions
You may consider IBD as one of the causes
You may visit an ENT surgeon to get your ears checked
3rd- Its mostly benign
4- You need to drink more water and maintain regular bowel and bladder habits
I do not think it is very serious at this point
Are you following me?
If not, please ask me
I follow you
I shall explain again
Stay away from stress
i'll check on the IBD and ear thing...
You need to follow it too
drink more fluids
and stay away from stress
Ok, thank you so much for taking time to look into this problem
Thank you roo
And get well soon
