User :   I have a very small, round pimple looking spot deep inside my ear canal, I had a lot of dryness over the past year or so in that same ear in roughly the same spot and always pulled loose skin out with my finger. It looks like a hard white head. Know what it is?
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   Do you have any pus draining out of it ?
User :   No
Doctor :   Do oyu have any temperature ?
User :   no
Doctor :   Any pain ?
User :   none
Doctor :   Ok.
User :   Again, it looks very much like a bright white head
Doctor :   May I know when it has last showed up ?
Doctor :   And how many times has it recurred ?
User :   It has been about three weeks or so
User :   I don't know if the spot has been there all that timebut that's when I noticed the feeling in the ear became rough(scab like)
Doctor :   Do you have a headache-type pain and redness behind your ear or tenderness when you touch the bone behind your ear?
User :   not at all
Doctor :   Ok. That is encouraging, As i can rule out a lymph node involvement.
Doctor :   Is your ear swollen, and does it itch or hurt when you pull on your ear or earlobe?
Doctor :   Did you have a history of TMJ or any infections due to Swimming ?
User :   My primary physician said it looked irritated, but even at that time (5 days ago) I don't know what he saw. It does not heart when pulled on and is not swollen. No TMj and no swimming infections. Again, for many months I would cratch at the inside of my ear (especially after a shower) and remove white dead skin from roughly the same area.
Doctor :   Ok.
User :   My dr said put cortisone on it
User :   I have an appt with my dermatologist in a week or so if it doesn't go away
Doctor :   Not to worry.A small INFECTION in the ear canal may be the cause. The infection will probably go away by itself in 2 to 5 days. A mild pain reliever and warm compresses may help relieve the pain and probably an NSAID/Cortisone.
Doctor :   These are recurrent ones caused by cold weather and dryness in winter.
User :   There is very little if any pain at all. Could it have been caused by repeated entry of my finger in the canal causing the pores to get clogged or infected?
Doctor :   Yes ideally you are not advised to keep fingers in the ear ,
User :   Understand. Does that sound like a possibility?
Doctor :   Please use a tylenol as it is an antiinflammatory agent,
Doctor :   tab. tylenol 500mg. thrice daily for one day.
Doctor :   and a warm compression.
User :   OK. What dosage each day?
Doctor :   500mg. tab. thrice daily.
User :   OK. If it doesn't go away in a week I will keep the appt with my dermatologist and have him take a look
User :   Thank you for your help
Doctor :   Yes, that would be the right thing to do, and please do not keep using a finger as you may infect it.
User :   Will do. Thanks
Doctor :   Please use the ear drops as advised.
User :   Good night
Doctor :   Thank you for consulting me.
Doctor :   Take care.
Doctor :   bye for now
