User :   This morning I noticed a small pea sized black on the top right hand side of my tongue. Upon further examination the veins on the underside and side of my tongue are very swollen and large and engorged with blood - it is as though they are seeping blood into my tongue

User :   of course
Doctor :   May I know your age please ?
User :   62, female
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   Since when have you noticed it ?
Doctor :   Do you have any swollen glands at the neck region ?
User :   Since yesterday morning
User :   no swollen glands, tongue is starting to become sensitive, and burn slightly
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   Do you see any blood on your tongue ?
Doctor :   Any change in sensation ?
User :   no, just the black spot on the top near the tip
User :   tongue is very sensitive at the sight on top
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   I shall give you a few possibilities that can be : User :   ok
Doctor :   1. Ot can be simple glossitis sue to tongue infection if you have had any dental problems ?
Doctor :   2.Have you had any dentures?
Doctor :   3. Do you have diabetes ?
Doctor :   These can cause some thing like this .
User :   no dental problems, no dnetures, CBC done approx 1 yr ago, no diabetes. What are symoptoms of diabetes
Doctor :   Diabetic symptoms mainly are Polyuria,Polydypsia,Polypahgia-ferquent hunger, ferquent thirst, frequent urination usually but can present in this fashion also.
Doctor :   As it has been 1yr. I would suggest a repeat blood sugar test.
Doctor :   4. Unless you have pain there is no need to worry.
User :   Not really any of these symptoms - is there a test specific to diabetes? What is the worst thing that can happen? Can I brush my teeth, what is my next step?
Doctor :   They may heal spontaneously , and may be simple glossitis .
Doctor :   1.HbA1c
Doctor :   2. Blood sugar PP
User :   I use undiluted hydrogen peroxide to rinse my mouth - could this cause a problem - shoulde I discontinue
Doctor :   Never undiluted should be used.
Doctor :   Even Listerine has to be diluted.
Doctor :   10 ml in 250 ml of water.
Doctor :   And then gargled.
User :   I have never smoked, do not drink over 1-2 glasses of wine couple times a month, could this be a form of oral cancer
Doctor :   But I would recommend yo to get these tests done.
Doctor :   I feel it has pain and lasts for more than 2 weeks , then might be we have to suspect anything else.
Doctor :   I would not jump to carcinoma at this stage.
User :   Thank you
Doctor :   Let us wait for 2 weeks.
Doctor :   And see if it heals well.
Doctor :   Do not worry about it now.
User :   ok, to brush my teeth?
Doctor :   You can go ahead brushing with teeth.
Doctor :   But do not over rub or over ckean your tongue now.
