User :   Hi I had an accident in jan on a sledge and ended up in a+e with back pain. showed no fractures just bruising but i did spend 4 weeks in bed. It has been fine since then but recently past week or so i have been getting pain in lower back, hip, thigh and calf. It has gradually got worse. I am training for a half marathon so have been doing lots of running and did continue up until sun when the pain got too much. I went to see an osteopath on mon who is unsure wether its related to jan incident or wether it is disc herniation or sacraileac joint. I am wondering wether i have overdone the running but im only 24 and am fit and healthy so surely wouldnt be getting hip pain.
Help please
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   let me read
User :   ok
Doctor :   the pain in the hip thigh and calf are on both sides or on one side ?
User :   one side Right
Doctor :   can you describe how is the pain ?
User :   just when i walk. when leg moves inline
User :   like sharp pain
Doctor :   it starts from the lower back and tham moves to the hip, thigh and calf ?
User :   sometimes
User :   sometimes jus in calf hip and thigh
Doctor :   do you have pain in the back while bending and running, trying to lift weight ?
User :   yes when running and lifting not so much on bending
Doctor :   bending to sides is more painful or bending forward is more painful ?
User :   to sides i would say
Doctor :   it seems you have strained the lower back again
Doctor :   it is very unlikely it is disc herniation for this young age
Doctor :   the incident in the January might have weakened the support tissue and makes more vulnerable for the lightest amount of strain
Doctor :   you need some rest
Doctor :   proper physiotherapy to the back for stretching and than strengthening of the back muscles
User :   howdo i see an physiotherapist? is osteopath no good
Doctor :   you should see an orthopedics not osteopaths
User :   why is the pain in my legs if its back strain?
Doctor :   the nerves in the spinal cord are compressed which causes sharp pain radiating to the leg
User :   ok
User :   will i have this weakness forever? do you think i did more damage by continuing to run?
Doctor :   the weakness will not be there for ever
Doctor :   it will go off with time if exercise is done and muscle strengthening is done
User :   by a physi?
User :   physio?
Doctor :   physiotherapist under the guidance of an orthopaedican
User :   ok
User :   thanks for your help
Doctor :   thanks for consulting health care magic
Doctor :   bye for now
