User :   I have been doing heavy weight lifting for just under a year now. Last week, while lifting, I suddenly got a strong throbbing pain in the right sie of my neck. It seems to dissipate in between sets a smy blood pressure goes back down, and it seems to be less intense as the workout progresses. At rest, I have a dull pain from behind my right ear, down the side of my neck.

User :   I am 40 years old. 6'2" and weigh 295.
User :   THe problem/pain started last week
User :   I have been doing the weight lifting for just under a year now, and have dropped from over 350lbs to 295lbs

Doctor :   I think you have cervical sprain
User :   It only hurts int he area between my ear and the side of my neck, along the area of the artery.
User :   Does this fit with a sprain of that type?

Doctor :   Acute meaning just over days , with clear Gym activity it the cause of the sprain

Doctor :   Do you have numbness and tingling in hands
User :   No.
Doctor :   Do yo have dizziness?
User :   No. Would this cause the throbbing sensation as blodd pressure increases?
Doctor :   Typically it is achy
Doctor :   throbbing is due to inflammation of vessels
User :   It aches at rest, but it throbs intensly when I lift
User :   between sets it dissapates somewhat.

Doctor :   Get the X ray of the cervical spine
User :   No dizzyness or light-headed feelings
User :   OK
Doctor :   So that we can rule out any Degenerative arthritis in spine
User :   OK. Any other suggestions?
Doctor :   You need rest for few days untill the x rays are done
Doctor :   You need cervical color for relief of pain
Doctor :   Take Ibuprofen 600mg 3 times day
User :   OK. Even with no pian in the back of my neck or along my spine, you think I may have sprained my neck?
Doctor :   for 3-5 days
Doctor :   it could radiate
User :   I just have pain on the right side of my neck and throbbing along the artery of the right side of my neck during exercise.
Doctor :   It could be spasm of paraspinal muscles
User :   OK. Thank you for the advice.
Doctor :   Basically it is Neck pain and and there is clear cut gym activity
Doctor :   So get the x ray and follow my advise
