User :   Hello, Thank you for responding ahead of time. I am having pain in both feet after being on them several hours. I do have hammertoes that are starting to turn under more creating tender places near top of toenails. I also have pain in both hands in the morning along with stiffness and have lately noticed that my grip is not as strong as it was. I am 54 years old and my mother was diagnosed with RA when she was 33. She had the crippling type in her feet and had to wear special shoes made for her. I asked my regular if I should make an appt. with my Moms Rhumatolgist since she knows family history and he stated I would be wasting my time because all I need is anti-flammatories. What is your opinion on this and do you believe I have the beginings of this terrible disease. Thank you for your time again.
Doctor :   hi
Doctor :   Dr.XXX here.
Doctor :   let me read what you have typed.
User :   Hi
Doctor :   since the pain is getting more and the toe is getting changes, you should think about getting checked for RA since your mother had it
Doctor :   RA runs in families and if she had crippling disease then it is possible that you too get it.
Doctor :   make an appointment with the rheumatologist and get started on disease modifying agents if found to have RA to delay the crippling effects and control the disease
Doctor :   antiinflammatories give only pain relief
User :   Thats my thoughts also. Do you know what test may be involved because like so many of us- no insurance- self pay.
Doctor :   for the disease control you will need other medications.
Doctor :   the tests involved would be serological tests for RA
