User :   I have for over a month had slight pain and tenderness on my right side under my rib cab/above my hip bone. Any ideas what this might be? Should I be worried?

User :   no its like it all day and every once in awhile I get a sharp pain that goes away in seconds.
User :   at times it is so tender it is uncomfortable to sleep in that side
Doctor :   have u got any investigations done ?
Doctor :   like a x ray ?
User :   I did a "scope" a few years ago - I have acid reflux

User :   my dad died of cancer - started in throat, then went to stomach and liver
User :   my mom also had her gallbladder out when she was in her 40's
Doctor :   do u do a lot of work outs ?

User :   none - I work alot
User :   I sit in an office all day long
Doctor :   at your age with history of right sided pain & discomfort as well as acid reflux, u may be hainvg issues with the Gall bladder
Doctor :   and this can be checked out by doing a sonogram of the liver and the gall bladder
Doctor :   the symptoms u have exactly fit the criteria
User :   anything I can do to ease the pain? Is it something I need to rush to the emergency for?
Doctor :   take some tylenol for the pain

Doctor :   apply local heat or cold packs in the mean time
User :   when will I know if it is bad enough that I need to see a dr?
Doctor :   if the pain is like a spasm, it could be due to gall stones and it is imperative to go to the ER for additional relief
User :   ok no spasms yet
Doctor :   presence of nausea, reduced apptite, reduced or disturbed sleep, severe crampy pain on the right upper belly are all signs that u need immeidiate care
User :   just a dull pain and tenderness
Doctor :   in that case, u can take tylenol or ibuprofen for the pain
User :   does taking the daily acide reducer make it worse?
Doctor :   avoid fatty and large meals
