Doctor :   hi
Doctor :   Dr. XXXXXXXX here.
Doctor :   please proceed with your health query
User :   hi doc..this might take a while to type please bear with me
Doctor :   sure. please go ahead
Doctor :   I will wait for your query
User :   I have had trouble with feeling of unable to breathe when sitting down - I had a bunch of tests done, ECG, Spirometry, sarcoid, CT lungs, cardio stress test, mips and meps test - asthma meds tests... but nothing helped, only recently I got chest pain that now seems permanent - been to hosp twice...more to come
Doctor :   what did the test results reveal?
User :   they tested heart coz high cholestorol and found nothing wrong...but now can feel pain in esophagus when drink water or breathe - tried proton pump inhibitors and antacids - no help...I am very concerened it may be esophageal cancer - but would that not show up on the CT of chest...or would that only be soft tissue so not show up?
User :   I do some very strange burps - like I am straining then a gargling burp comes out...I can localize the pain in center of chest level with nipple but on left side of esophagus
Doctor :   when were your tests done? how long back was it?
Doctor :   please provide your age, height, weight, details of past medical illness and treatment if any
User :   CT was over months ago along with mips meps, spirometry etc....but cardio stress test and ecg and xrays were resent but were looking at my heart
Doctor :   ok
User :   I am 38 - 100kgs (but not overweight - ex athlete) lost 14 kgs recently (by choice) was overweight - apparently have sleep apnoae no other probs
User :   have psoriatic arthriyus
User :   sorry that was meant to say Ct was over 6 months ago
User :   would the CT have seen any grwoth in esophagus or not - it did find enlarged lymph node near my AAAAAAA
Doctor :   ok. the CT over 6 months back would not have detected much tissue growth
Doctor :   since when you are having these symptoms?
Doctor :   could you provide your height?
User :   feeling of breath not working has been about 2 years
User :   188cms tall
Doctor :   as per your height, your BMI is high
User :   what is more likely - Gerd - Esophageal cancer - Hiatus Hernia???
Doctor :   most probably could be due to you being overweight.
User :   I know...but I have a large build large bones ex football player
User :   doctors have told me I am not really overweight as I am such solid build
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   the mid chest symptoms could be a hiatal hernia or GERD symptoms
User :   not esophageal cancer?
Doctor :   not likely, you woul dhave swalowing or food getting stuck kind of feeling
User :   I have gastroscopy next week if I have cancer will that find it
Doctor :   along with weight loss and loss of appetite.
User :   what about an ulcer.....-- also I took some of....hang on ill find it
Doctor :   sure. i will wait
User :   I have high uric acid...and no not from took recently some sodium bicarbonate, pottasium bicarbonate, sodium citrate....could this have caused it
Doctor :   yes, they do have potential to cause irritation of stomach lining
Doctor :   increased alkalinity can also lead to breathing trouble.
User :   as mentioned I am pretty scared about esophageal how can you be so sure it is unlinkely as this would put my mind at ease please - its not my stomach I can feel it on the side wall of esophagus
Doctor :   in that a consultation with a gastroenterologist and a endoscopy would help
Doctor :   it will detect what is teh exact cause for your symptoms
User :   I also strangely seem to have low o2 sats when sitting down but ok after fact my bretahing problem goes away during excercise or movement
Doctor :   along with direct visualization of the esophageal lining.
User :   so why do you not think cancer?
User :   can gerd or ulcer cause difficulty breathing?
Doctor :   yes GERD if severe can cause breathing trouble
Doctor :   and since you do not have other symptoms suggesting cancer, I would first try and rule out benign causes
User :   so how more likely to be gerd than cancer 50/50????
Doctor :   and then proceed to see if at all cancer is the cause
User :   Ok so just to be sure....the gastroscopy will find out the problem for sure?
User :   how does Gerd affect breathing?
Doctor :   yes it should help in confirming or ruling out esophageal cancer or GERD related problems
User :   help or find....if I have cancer will gastrocopy find it ..or should I ask for something else please
Doctor :   due to reflux of acid contents due to GERD can cause irritation and change in chest pressure
Doctor :   leading to breathing trouble.
Doctor :   at first you would require a thorough examination by a Gastroenterologist
Doctor :   based on your examination results
User :   I have had bvretahing prob for many years..but only pain in chest now for a few weeks.....if gerd was casuing breathing issues wouldnt it have caused reflux a long time ago?
Doctor :   it will be decided what can be best for you
Doctor :   symptoms appearance can vary from person to person.
User :   onle last qtn...can Esophageal cancer cause A/ Breathing problem B/ Burping problem I have?
Doctor :   it can cause both the symptoms
User :   and gerd can as well?
Doctor :   yes, it also can cause both
Doctor :   difference would be with esophageal cancer having
User : back where I started..but thanks...
User :   having...?
Doctor :   weight loss and loss of appetite with it
Doctor :   go ahead with the tests and consultation advised
Doctor :   to reach to cause for your problems
User :   I have lost 14kgs..but thats more from hard work...and diet
Doctor :   and get started with appropriate treatment
User :   no dramas
Doctor :   you have lost 14 kgs over how many months time?
User :   thansk doc..sorry for being so concerend but esophageal cancer survival rate is low - so worries me
Doctor :   have you lost more than 3 kgs a month anytime?
User :   about 3 - 4 months
Doctor :   yes I can understand your concern
Doctor :   and hence I am concerned
Doctor :   about you getting properly evaluated
Doctor :   for your symptoms
