User :   i have pcos had one previous pregnancy that ended in miscarriage so very anxious about my recent pregnancy i am four weeks late for my period and had a blood test that stated i was 3 to 4 weeks pregnant with a hcg level of 400-450 and was told not to come back to the doctors untill i was 5-6 weeks pregnant for further tests. but shouldnt i be monitoring my hcg levels week by week to see if they increase please help me i am going crazy not knowing what to do
Doctor :   Hi
User :   hi
Doctor :   May I know your age?
User :   im 21
Doctor :   Are you on any fertilization pills?
User :   i was but i havnt taken them for a month
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Let me brief you.
Doctor :   There are various other causes for rise in HCG levels and pregnancy is one among them.
Doctor :   A weekly rise in titre are signs of pregnancy.
Doctor :   Hence you may get a weekly check up on your HCG levels.
Doctor :   The most confirmative tests though being ultrasound examination to check for fetal signs such as fetal heart
Doctor :   which is possible after the 5th week.
Doctor :   Hence the doctors suggestions for the review after 5th to 6th week.
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
User :   should i ask for weekly tests for my hcg levels the doctor told me i was pregnant but dont bother coming back untill i was 5 6 weeks i am just so scared of miscarrying again
Doctor :   An ultrasound examination is a better diagnostic tool of pregnancy than weekly HCG levels check up.
Doctor :   Hence my suggestions are
Doctor :   1. Plan for the ultrasound test after the 5 -6th week,
Doctor :   2. Watch out for heavy bleeding or abdominal pain.
User :   is it more common for women how suffer from pcos to have lower hcg levels durring pregnancy
Doctor :   3. Weekly HCG check up are optional.
User :   i will book in for the ultrasound
Doctor :   HCG a hormone is secreted both from the cells of placenta and from the ovaries, the levels may be slightly lower in individuals who have PCOD.
User :   ok thankyou for the advice
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   no thats it i will just have to go mad for two weeks untill i can have an ultrasound.
Doctor :   Stress factors are also one of the risk factors of abortion, hence I suggest you to avoid stress.
Doctor :   Continue with good nutrition, watch out for the symptoms of bleeding and abdominal pain.
Doctor :   I wish you a normal pregnancy and delivery.
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   i will try my hardest not to worry about it i have had bit of cramping which concerns me thanks you for the wishes
