User :   I have urinary retention right after I had a surgery of the gallbladder on 2/2/10. Before the surgery, I can void very normal. Right now, I am catheterizing a few times a day, each time approximately 300cc. On a good day (especially after I swim), I can void 4 or 5 times, each time from 10cc to 3cc. On a bad day, none at all. My doctors performed cystoscopy and urodynamics and the bladder is ok. My doctors concluded that I have an overdistention (weak) bladder and hope the time will heal. Any advise to help me to void normal and can my bladder will be strong again at all?

Doctor :   as diagnosed the urinary symptoms in you are due to overdistension of the bladder
Doctor :   due to over distension of bladder there is loss of tone of the bladder muscles due to which the bladder is not able to void urine
Doctor :   bladder is under the control of autonomic nervous system
Doctor :   autonomic nervous system means- all the activities and functions are automatic and we do have only little voluantrily control
Doctor :   it takes time for the urinary bladder to regain its tone,
Doctor :   it waries from 6 months to 1 year
Doctor :   it is under the control of automatic nervous system so supportive measures can only be adopted and given time for the tone to regain
User :   Do you think my bladder can be strong again OR I have to catheterize the rest of my life?
Doctor :   the bladder will regain its tone
Doctor :   it can become stronger again
User :   Which options do you recommend: one is to wait for my bladder regains its tone OR do I need to have the INTERSTIM implant?
Doctor :   it is advised to wait and give sufficient time say minimum of 6 to 8 months for the bladder to regain its strength before considering the options of interstim implants
User :   My doctors also propose the botox injected to the bladder sphincter OR to have the bladder neck incision, what do you think?
Doctor :   botox injection you can try first
