Doctor :   Has she been diagnosed as osteoporosis?
User :   i dont really know
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Let me explain to you.
User :   im not completely sure but it was there in her mother's case
Doctor :   Osteoporosis is a condition where there is demineralisation of the bone.
Doctor :   This happens secondary to serum calcium deficiency.

User :   she had underwent an operation a year back for her shoulder
User :   she was told swollen shoulders and later some disc or tissue tear was the cause
Doctor :   Simple joint pains are not diagnostic of osteoporosis.
Doctor :   Your descriptions of symptoms are more suggestive of arthritis.
Doctor :   and not osteoporosis.
Doctor :   Both these conditions are different.
User :   ok
User :   but is there any cure for the same doctor?
User :   will this affect her in the future?
Doctor :   The condition unlike osteoporosis can be arrested unlike osteoporosis.
Doctor :   However she will need to follow the advice of the doctors strictly.
Doctor :   Let me put across in simple words.
Doctor :   The most common cause of arthritis affecting knees is due to degeneration.
Doctor :   Degeneration is bound to happen with age, but increased body weight, infection, inappropriate posture, over usage, infection/inflammation, autoimmune factors can aggravate these changes.
Doctor :   Hence the treatment of this condition is based on treating these aggravating factors.
Doctor :   The treatment options hence include
Doctor :   1. Weight regulations - keeping the body weight as ideal as possible
User :   she is certainly not over weight but yes her posture could be the reason
Doctor :   2. Good rest to prevent overusage
Doctor :   3. Good antiinflammation (pain control) measures whenever there is severe pain
User :   ok
Doctor :   4. Mild physical exercises to keep the surrounding supportive structure as strong as possible.
Doctor :   5. Physiotherapy.
Doctor :   These measures most often keep things under control.
Doctor :   However in some of them due to many factors, when things go out of control,
Doctor :   The condition can be come serious needing every day pain killers or some time surgical treatment in the form of joint replacement.
Doctor :   Hence regular check with doctor is also essential to keep an watch on this condition, so that appropriate treatment can be taken at the right time to prevent the need for surgery
User :   thankyou doctor,
User :   can i ask you one more thing please?
Doctor :   Calcium supplement is an additional supporting treatment.
User :   She does have some calcium tablets everyday.
Doctor :   Let her continue with it.
User :   ok doctor
Doctor :   Calcium supplements is going to be essential after she crosses her menopause.
User :   I see
User :   thankyou doctor for all your guidance.
